It feels good to be back in Yosemite again! I've been to Yosemite in the winter, spring, summer, & now in fall. Every season has it's benefits & downsides. One reason I am loving fall in Yosemite is that the crowds are so much less & there is actually parking pretty much anywhere I want to park. Of course, one of the downsides is that most of the waterfalls are just a trickle or completely dry. I love the cool weather & changing of the leaves though, & it's so nice to not have to fight for a parking spot! by @shellcreekphoto

Officially Mr & Mrs Shelton!! 🥹💖 we had the most incredible micro wedding in Grand Teton National Park this past weekend. A relaxed ceremony in the park with our closest people, followed by an AMAZING dinner, and then winding down in the cutest little cabins. We couldn’t have asked for better weather either (unless there was a tornado but I don’t think our families would have liked that as much 🤣)

I’m honored to have gotten sooo close to winning the @adventurewedmag cover contest but came in a close second! Just wanted to say thank you all for your votes!

Figured it was time to share more of Michael & Joey’s adventure session in the San Juan Mountains of western Colorado. We adventured to a number of different waterfalls, mountain valleys, & a couple of alpine lakes.

When you’re having a wedding in the mountains, getting alllll the photos you want while still spending time with your guests can be a challenge. But having a separate adventure session, a day to go out into the mountains & run around with each other, to just have fun without having to worry about a timeline, is one of the best ways to get all the adventurous wedding photos you want. taken in Ouray, Colorado by @shellcreekphoto

When you want to explore all of the parks in Moab, have a bit of an adventure, & include some time with the most special people in your life, a full day adventure elopement is the way to do it!

Kacie & Trevor had a mix of a day between an adventure elopements & an intimate wedding in the desert.

From Canyonlands under the Milky Way to Dead Horse at sunrise, Arches & Castle Valley, & a sunset celebration back at their Airbnb with @saltdcateringco as their private chef that made INCREDIBLE food, it was an amazing way to celebrate their day in Moab!

I often times get asked about how other couples usually plan their day. And with a more traditional wedding, there’s definitely a certain flow to the day that most weddings follow. But when you get married like this, it’s really all up to you & the possibilities are endless! With everything that your day could be, it can be hard to narrow it down what you want to do, but that’s what I’m here to help with.

This elopement in Seward, Alaska may have been one of the rainiest wedding days I have ever photographed, but these photos are some of my favorites! Not to mention, Marissa & Cameron made the best of this rainy elopement day.

They started off their day in a really fun way with a cold plunge! They both jumped into the lake where their Airbnb was located & then enjoyed some warm up time in the hot tub. Then at their first look, an eagle flew past!

Their details & colorful florals were the perfect pop of color that this gray rainy day in Alaska needed. We took a boat taxi to explore some of the coasts & mossy forests of Resurrection Bay just outside of Seward. We found a cozy spot where they could say private vows where they’d be a little more protected from the wind & rain.

But then it was time to embrace the weather! We ran around the beaches, got absolutely soaked, & broke some umbrellas with the windy & rain.

After all this, we met up with their family on a private boat charter to cruise around the bay. We changed plans a bit because of the severe weather & found a more protected spot in the forests for their family ceremony.

While Moab is certainly known for it's vast desert landscapes, there are some other truly incredible gems in the desert. One of these places is Hanksville, & here you can find towering desert buttes, red sandstone canyons, colorful clay hills, & some of the darkest skies.⁠

I've really been enjoying getting out further & further into the desert areas, away from the hot spots & usual places people go, exploring all the various BLM lands of southern Utah, Bears Ears, Glen Canyon, & Escalante.⁠
⁠
What I love about places like Hanksville for an elopement location is that you can find some of the coolest desert landscapes but have very few to no people around. Hanksville is also one of my favorite canyoneering destinations! I highly recommend hiring a guide & trying out some easy canyons if it's something you haven't done before but want to try.⁠

If you're looking for the best time to elope in Hanksville, I recommend late September through early November in the fall & late March through May in the spring. Winter elopements are definitely possible here too! Just don't expect warm desert temperatures, however most of the time, the winter weather is a bit more mild. I still have availability this November & next spring for some desert elopements whether you are thinking of Hanksville, Moab, or want to explore other options! by @shellcreekphoto

Some weddings are beautiful because of where they take place. Others are beautiful because of the people at the center of them.

Michael and Joey's celebration was both.

From handwritten details inspired by the Telluride landscape to a mountaintop ceremony surrounded by wildflowers, every part of the weekend reflected who they are and the life they've built together. It felt joyful, intentional, and completely their own.

That's what thoughtful planning creates. Not just a beautiful event, but an experience where every detail has meaning and every moment feels effortless.

Did you know that Moab has red sand dunes?

Tucked away in a lesser visited area outside of town, the White Wash Sand Dunes are one such a unique landscape in Moab area. Instead of towering sandstone cliffs, you’ll find rolling red/orange dunes that glow at sunset & stay colorful well into blue hour.

It’s an incredible spot for adventurous Utah elopements, especially if you’re looking for a location that feels a little more off the beaten path. They also much for a fun off-roading area! If you love the desert scenery but want something different than the classic Moab overlooks & arches, this hidden gem is absolutely worth exploring. taken in Moab, Utah by @shellcreekphoto
