Calling all morbidly curious readers! 💀📚

Troubadour Booksellers hosts the Charlotte Chapter of the Morbidly Curious Book Club, a nonfiction-only club that dives into the darker, macabre side of the bookstore. Last time we tackled Empire of the Scalpel: The History of Surgery by Ira Rutkow, and the discussion was guided and fascinating, even for those who didn’t finish the book.

Join us for the next session on Sunday, October 18 from 12 to 1pm at Troubadour Booksellers, 1721 Sardis Rd N, Charlotte, NC 28270. And if you want to keep the conversation going between meetings, you don’t have to go alone. The Charlotte Readers Discord link is in our bio. 🩸

Charlotte, your book calendar just got a full time job. Nine bookish events in one week means we’ve officially entered “cancel dinner plans, I have a trivia night about a fictional court” season.

Swipe through to see what’s got the whole city booked and busy, then meet us at the one that matches your chaos level.

If you’d wanna talk about all this while frantically rescheduling your life around it, the Charlotte Readers Discord is the spot. Link in bio.

This is your sign to slow down and mark the season. The harvest moon is the last full moon before autumn settles in, a threshold between what’s ending and what’s beginning, and a simmer pot is one of the easiest ways to feel that shift in your own home.

Each ingredient carries a blessing, and each blessing gets a book. Swipe through for the full recipe and five reads to match:

🍊 Oranges, for returning to yourself → Woman of Light by Kali Fajardo-Anstine
🟤 Cinnamon, for releasing what’s run its course → The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
🟫 Cloves, for keeping close what feels like home → Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
🍃 Bay leaves, for trusting what’s quietly taking root → Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
💧 Water, for cleansing your home and heart → The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates

Simmer for 4 to 8 hours, let your house smell like fall, and let the pot do a little emotional work while you’re at it.

What are you reading this harvest moon? Drop it below 👇

It's my birthday and also Libra season, so I've spent the morning doing the most Libra thing possible: making a book list and then rearranging it four times because the order felt "off."

These 3 picks are for anyone who has ever needed a pros and cons list to pick a paperback. Justice on trial, gothic devotion gone wrong, a body renegotiating its own terms with reality, it's basically therapy with pretty covers.

Tag a Libra. They'll agree with you, argue the opposite five minutes later, then pick the book with the prettiest spine anyway. Charlotte Readers Discord is in bio for more recs and CLT bookish chaos.
