A hui hou, Grandpa Hoyle 🦅 🌊

It comforts me to imagine you up in heaven, back in your prime, windsurfing among the Pailolo clouds.

I couldn’t be more grateful to have had such a close relationship with my grampa Hoyle. He was the smartest person I’ve ever known, yet one of the most humble. He adored his wife Diane, loved his family, and never missed an opportunity to make us laugh. From releasing lizards in the house to scare my cousins, siblings and me, to rolling around like a log in the shorebreak, playing cards and cracking jokes at sunset in Kahana, he brought so much joy into our lives.

In many ways, grampa taught me what it means to live with passion, purpose, and commitment. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have experienced so much of the world or built friendships from every corner of it. Windsurfing brought us together. It connected people to nature, to the wind and ocean, and to each other.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out and shared stories about how Hoyle, or windsurfing itself, brought joy and passion into your life. Reading your messages has been a reminder of how many lives he touched.

Mahalo, Grandpa Hoyle, for being a true pioneer, inventor, and family man. The ripples of your actions continue to uplift generations around the world. Because of your vision, countless friendships were formed, adventures were shared, and many of us found a lifelong connection to the ocean and wind.

Your legacy lives on with every smile and spark of joy windsurfing brings to lives daily, and in your ‘ohana who love you deeply.
