A pathway transition program that empowers Nigeria's homeless residents for sustained independent living.
From-Street-To-Self-Sufficient! 👇🏾

What if your next-door neighbour woke up homeless tomorrow?
In the rain. With nowhere to go. Who would you call?

This is why we started SHI’s Communal Shelter Program.

Instead of waiting to build, we rented a space and turned it into a home.
With community leaders, volunteers, and people like you, we created a place of hope.

But we do more than provide a roof.
Through CSP, Sheltered Hope Initiative gives residents:
✓ Safe housing
✓ Formal education
✓ VOTs - Vocational Training
✓ Life skills + tools for self-sufficiency

Our goal: Take 1 person off the street at a time. One city at a time.
Reintegrate them back into society as valuable, contributing members.

This is what happens when community shows up.
This is what sustainable solutions to homelessness look like.

This is the heart of Sheltered Hope Initiative.

Hunger feels big. But change starts small.

As we say, The Journey of a thousand miles begins with one step

And thanks to Lagos Food Bank, we took a LEAP last Friday — sharing food and snacks with individuals in need and partner NGOs.

Being a beacon of hope through this was truly a great fulfillment.

The fight isn’t over, we know.
But together, we’re winning it one outreach at a time.

With the mounting pressure to survive within a mega competitive system that feasts on the same limited resources, thriving has become a privilege, and the less-privileged have it none.

We are aware that sheltering those experiencing homelessness is not sustainable by itself and would not solve the homelessness crisis that has taken over our bridges, streets, and economy.

This is why Sheltered Hope Initiative has taken its time to familiarise itself with the homeless community, their needs, and priorities. As a result, we were able to come up with sustainable solutions that would help transition the unhoused to self-sufficient individuals through skill, training, and employment empowerment programs developed for sheltered residents

The demand on shelter is high, but the resources are almost unavailable.
We all desire to live in a better world and create a better community for our children to thrive, and it starts with a little impact donation.
It starts with you.

It's WORLD HOMELESS DAY TODAY!
...And in Nigeria, when you lose your home, you almost always lose your education too.

School is already expensive. Trying to stay in school without a roof over your head, that's almost impossible.

At SHi, we believe a homeless past shouldn't determine your future and we are always seeking partnerships that can help shape the homelessness narrative in Nigeria.

That's why our HopeMates in partnership with @chessinslums are not just sheltered but are enrolled in an outstanding school and thriving.

It's been a hopeful start to an auspicious academic year so far, and we're committed to making their journey even more comfortable.
With your help, nothing is unachievable.

You can support by donating or sponsoring on of these teens academic prowess.

At SHi, we believe in the future of each of our Hope-Mates and in our CSP project as a sustainable solution to homelessness in Nigeria.

With innovative thinking empowerment being the highlight of the week, we focused on exhibition events such as Nigeria Mega Project Expo 2026 and Food Meet Fashion 2026. We were able to challenge our Hopemates to think beyond their humble beginnings to a greater tomorrow, marrying these 2 worlds together to solve real life problems and scale.

We learned, we were engaged and through the experience, exposed to the broader innovative world that's possible through the brilliant minds of people like you and I all over the world.

It was an enlightening exhibition and we are super grateful for the opportunity to learn.

Thank you Nigeria Mega Project Expo 2026 and @foodmeetsfashionfestival we look forward to the next exhibition

It is possible to do great things from a small place and guess what...

That "small" place will eventually meet up with the great things you're doing.

We honour and appreciate Chess in Slums Africa on its 8th year anniversary week as we celebrate our joint partnership in doing the little things together.

8 years is no small feat and their hardwork so far is such an inspiration to us for growth.
As @tunde_onakoya said, "...days when the size of the problem made our efforts feel painfully small." And we feel that same ache too.

We know that we also, by continuing to do great things will grow into a great initiative bringing hope to all who need it in Nigeria and Beyond.

Happy Anniversary Week @chessinslums
Cheers to greater heights and achievements ❤️

Christmas in August?
With the smiles on these children's faces, if we could, we would

We're throwing it back to the impactful moments in the Community Impact Partnership Outreach held at Oladipo Primary School

We had clothes, health check, food and lots of fun for the kids and everyone else who came around.

The joy they felt was the very definition of palpable and we're looking forward to going out again and doing even more.

We started with a vision and we became a team on a mission committed to changing the face of homelessness in Nigeria and its through this zeal that we now partner with @chessinslums whose mission is to unveil the royalty in 1Million children across Africa with the game of Chess.
Through this partnership we have onboarded 5 Hope-mate teens who will be transitioned into self-sufficiency through our CSP pathway program.
The journey to making real tangible impact has begun for SHi and we are grateful to our donors and partners, @lagos_mysd @chessinslums who have made us providentially able to Shelter Hope.

On this World Book Day 2026, we took our mantra to the streets. As part of our monthly community service commitment through our Communal Shelter Program, the SHi family joined the Network of Book clubs & reading culture promoters in Nigeria to mark this year's theme — Go All In — at the 4th Lagos Book Walk at Amuwo-Odofin 2026 with @networkpromote

For knowledge, we sweat today walking the streets of Festac and sharing the message behind the power of books. The journey of growth demands effort. But as we say at SHi —Stay, Learn and Grow — we believe in books because they are the tools that help us stay grounded, learn deeply, and grow together.

Read today. Lead tomorrow. Grow with SHi

Happy World Book Day 2026!

We are delighted to share that five more of our champions who were affected by the recent demolition have been successfully placed with Sheltered Hope Initiative. Through this placement, they now have access to safe shelter and, just as importantly, the opportunity to continue their education in a stable and supportive environment.

@sheltered_hope Initiative is a non-profit organisation dedicated to ending homelessness in Nigeria. Their work focuses on a pathway to self-sufficiency through their Communal Shelter Program, which not only provides accommodation but also empowers beneficiaries with the structure, care, and resources needed to rebuild their lives.

We appreciate Sheltered Hope Initiative for partnering with us and for their continued commitment to restoring hope to young people. This collaboration represents a meaningful step forward in ensuring that those impacted are not left behind and supported toward a better and more secure future. 💙

More than ever, we at Sheltered Hope Initiative are doubling down on our commitment to move sustainable displacement solutions from paper to actionable practice through partnership and collaboration.

Day 2 at the 2026 Securing Futures Conference has placed us right where we need to be—in talks with private sector leaders, development partners, and government agents all asking the same question: how do we make scalable impact work?

Grateful for the connections and conversations that will shape our next steps. @unicef_nigeria @unicef_ng @unhcr_nigeria
