Birthday celebration, low-key Labor Day style! What a fabulous day. We’re enjoying perfect, cooler weather. I filled my day with coffee, walks with pups and kids, and a trip to Truth and Consequences to soak in the hot springs with my love 😍 I suggested nachos and bowling after the springs, and learned that of course Jae was a damn good bowler back in the day, in addition to all the other things he is great at. He smoked me, but I am still a better dancer 💃

Thank you to all who reached out with birthday wishes! It makes me feel such gratitude for this life and my connection to so many wonderful people 🍁 by @shenleyj

I’ve got some books in-progress for open studios at The Hood’s Third Friday event tonite. Come check out my little studio space and my studio neighbors, all talented artists doing unique work.

This is a new book design and you can come visit me while I put finishing touches on it. Try to guess what that inlay material is (wrong answers only….)

Third Friday at The Hood will have an art installation and art collections from local artists, performance from a NM music artist and El Paso DJ, food, drink and screenprinting demos! taken in The Hood New Mexico by @shenleyj

A star is born! My first-ever attempt at creating a sourdough starter with which to make my own bread. Meet Breddie Mercury, named (obviously) after the ground-breaking, unique and iconic artist. I bake my first loaves tomorrow - wish me luck, y’all 🍀 by @shenleyj

A little Labor Day, long weekend, birthday road trip to Ruidoso, commemorating Auntie Diane’s passing and a transition of the seasons capture.

I love the beginning of September, always have. I love the switch from summer’s hazy, hot fun to autumn’s color, cooler mornings and evenings, crisp, efficient harvest sentiment and turning inward after so many months of being out and about. There is much to enjoy in September.

Enjoy the seasonal shift, everyone! ✨ taken in Las Cruces, New Mexico by @shenleyj

I loved my time spent volunteering with @nuestratierranm this morning! The cleanup of the gorgeous La Mancha wetlands was rigorous and educational for me. We put our backs into it! And got to do a nice yoga flow with salutations to the sun and sky to close out our time there. Happy Earth Day 🌎 by @shenleyj

Yesterday was my Auntie Diane’s (Pinky’s) birthday, and I spent the day remembering her fun spirit, great jokes that always ended with “ba-dum-bump” and her huge, warm heart! I went to take the dog for a walk at the university and stumbled on a music festival. At one point the very young punk band that was playing dedicated a song to being brave, doing the right thing and staying true to yourself. Diane would have loved that, so I imagined her with me, rocking out and smiling at everyone, making at least 50 new friends among the festival-goers and vendors. I had her ashes with me so I threw some up and let them get carried by the breeze up into the mountains! Fly free, Auntie D - you are remembered and missed 💕🌸💕

I didn’t take pictures, so here’s a pic of a rainbow over the Organs and a pink hibiscus for Pinky! 🌈 by @shenleyj

Dia de Los Muertos celebration on the plaza in historic Mesilla. What a fitting ceremonial way to celebrate life, death, family and love ❤️ I’m glad that Jae’s Mom wanted to go with me and take in this experience together. We all have stories of loss, and stories about our loved ones should be shared and celebrated.
