Happy 85th bday to my mom Sheree! On Sept 22nd, 1941, Sharon Marla Kopelle was born in Los Angeles, CA! She became Sheree Kopelle, then Sheree Levin after getting married. Then Amber Levin in her hippie phase in the 70’s, and finally Sheree Rose in the 80’s! But she’s also been mom all along, and now she’s DOM MOM! My mom met my dad at an elementary school in Los Angeles in 1963 called Nora Sterry, she was 21 years old and my dad’s TA. They got married in 1964, and then she started her teaching career at another school called Menlo Avenue. Happy Father’s Day to my dad, Dan! This is a montage of photos from his wedding day with my mom, March 22nd, 1964. He was the cutest, sweetest, funniest, most loving dad ever! He passed in 1997. Next week at the 29th Annual Association of Professional Piercers (APP) Conference & Expo (held June 7–12, 2026, at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas), my mom Sheree has been asked to be the closing night speaker!

She’ll be giving a presentation entitled, “Piercing History through the Lens of Sheree Rose,” which examines her extensive photography documenting the queer subcultures and early modern piercing communities of Los Angeles. The programming will be showcased alongside displays from the Body Piercing Archives (BPA)

Q: Are we not Juju? A: We are in Seattle at the zoo about to see DEVO!!! My mom @shereerose108 took me to see DEVO in 1979 in LA, I was 11. Blew my mind! Full circle, Juliet who is now a DEVO freak, is about to see them and she’s turning 11 on Friday! And if that’s not all, @jasonhamacher hooked us up with after party passes! Okay peeps, this is very exciting! Last Friday at L.A.C.E. @welcometolace in LA, my mom, @shereerose108 did a performance she’s been wanting to do for ages. She performed as the late 19th century/early 20th century anarchist, feminist icon, Emma Goldman! Now we’ve hatched a plan to bring the show to DC!

Thursday, June 5th, 7:30, one night only, we are thrilled to have Sheree do her Emma Goldman performance right here in Mt. Pleasant at @jasonhamacher ‘s amazing @lost_origins_gallery

Tickets are free, but you must RSVP with Eventbrite. Space will be very limited! Link in bio and on the QR code on the poster. Speaking of which, as always huge shout out to @boyvsdragon Matt Curry for his beautiful poster art design!

Rose’s Wake

Growing older as a woman in the art world has often meant that curators and critics either assume that I am already dead or wish that I was.

I do not want a funeral when I’m gone. I hope my late partner Bob was right when he said it is fun to be dead .
