Ten years ago, then, Councilman Bob Williams called me before the sun rose and asked, "Sis, do you know what happened in your District?" Bob is a retired member of WPD and a Volunteer Firefighter, so he had timely information.

He proceeds to tell me about the fire in Canby Park that claimed the lives of Our Friends. He arrived at my house less than eight minutes after he called. We rode to Christiana Hospital together praying fervently.

Upon arrival, the heart ache and pain was beyond believe. Shortly thereafter, while firefighters stood at attention, another one of Our Friends was transported to Crozer-Chester Hospital. God would call her home on December 1, 2016.

Today, while at the 10th Anniversary of their untimely deaths in the Canby Park fire, I reflected on their families, their smiles, their laughter, their hearts for service and I found joy in the hugs from Our WFD Family and Friends, through our tears.

What an honor it was to serve them as the City Councilwoman in the 6th District 10 years ago. They would say, "Bob and Sherry have our backs. They appreciate WFD!" A Very True Statement.

May we always remember the sacrifices of Capt. Christopher Leach, Lt. Ardythe "ardy" Hope Memorial Fire Station 5 and Lt. Jerry Fickes for their service to Wilmington Fire. We Love and Miss All of You! #WilmingtonHeroes by @sherrydorseywalker

The Praise Dance Ministry has not performed since the fire at The Mother Church. Yesterday, they opened the @augustquarterlymedia Week giving God "Total Praise." August Quarterly is the oldest celebration of Black religious freedom in the Country, with its origins in @cityofwilmde. by @sherrydorseywalker

In the midst of everything happening in today's society, it is important to continue pouring into Our Children. I truly enjoyed reading at @thefreedomschool, located at @bayardschool, this week.

I was glad to be a part of the team to bring this program, which teaches Our Children Arts, Science, Math and Technology, while incorporating Black History into the curriculum, to the @christina.k12, under the direction of Superintendent Deirdra Joyner. #FreedomSchool by @sherrydorseywalker

This was my post on May 23, 2017 at @mskcommunitycenter.

Saturday, I spent my day with the Lovely Ladies of I Am My Sister's Keeper at Parkway Academy/@mskcommunitycenter feeding people in the community. Ny, 14, of Hedgeville, decided that she wanted "to feed the homeless and give back to the community."

Dr. @she_a_talker Phillips and Ms. Charlotte Miller-Lacy entered a competition and placed second. These ladies used every dime from the prize money to make Ny's dream a reality. Thank you to everyone who volunteered on Saturday to show Ny that "adults actually care about kids in the City." Last year, she was at Bayard, where she received the inspiration for her vision. Great job Ny, I'm so very proud of you. #AndAChildWillLeadThem!

(Today, I held Ny as she cried in my arms at @mskcommunitycenter because Lady Charlotte Miller-Lacy, who believed in her, went on to Glory yesterday). #CherishEachDay #SaveMSK #WeLoveMsCharlotte by @sherrydorseywalker
