Another favorite transition in my opening plenary set at the 116th @naacp National Convention - "Walking" (Mary, Mary)" ---> "Optimistic" (Sounds of Blackness).

The #NAACP asked me to kick off the 116th National Convention with music that lifts the spirits of the attendees, includes R&B and Gospel, and represents the breadth of ages of attendees, all in 45 minutes. I enjoyed bringing their vision to reality, and I'll post more clips over the coming days!

Link to full set - and the entire opening plenary, including my speaker/panel transitional music - in bio.

#TBT Since yesterday was President Obama's 60th birthday, I thought I'd do a campaign years throwback.

11 years ago today, a 25 year old April organized and executed a DNC birthday fundraiser swing that is one of my faves and a career highlight - a rally at the Chicago Cultural Center, and this private 30-person event at a private home at the Four Seasons on Michigan Avenue.

The story of how this came to be is too long for IG, but lawyer Judy Gold, my Illinois Obama donors, and photographer @todd.bannor were so key to this moment. The joy in my face is so real here - I loved making these events happen.

It was also cool to hear that President Obama gave this event really high marks while chatting about it with friends the following week - the same week I turned 26.

What a time, and happy 60th to President Obama! by @shes_a_plus

Class of 2006! Have you made it back to DC yet?
If so, @howard06reunion is welcoming us at the @conradwashingtondc!

Drop by to pick up your event wristbands, take a pic in front of our welcome wall, and pop upstairs to the bar for a Howard-themed cocktail, while catching up with alums from across the country (was up there earlier - you will see and meet Howard fam you know and don't know, respectively!)

Shouts out to @artfullyarion, @atdominique and the Class of 2006 Reunion and Logistics teams for their incredibly hard work warmly welcoming us home!!

Puuuummmmped about October 2026!!!

I get to DJ events centered around so many things I hold dear - voting/engaging in our political process, celebrating HBCUs, and...

I am spinning on the Yard - which is also MY Yard - during the illustrious Yardfest at Howard University, during my 20th Reunion weekend! Speechless at the opportunity.

I'd love to see you at all of these events! This weekend, next Friday, and if you are in DC for @howard1867 Homecoming 2026. by @shes_a_plus

HAPPY HBCU HOMECOMING SEASON!!!

Are you excited about going back to your Yard to catch up with classmates and friends? Are you wishing you could go, but won't make it this year?

Then come out to Salud Cerveceria (@saludcerveceria) on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 6:30pm - until! The Howard University Alumni Club (HUAC) Charlotte (@huaccharlotte) and Howard University Class of 2006 20-Year Reunion Committee (@howard06reunion) is hosting a 2026 HBCU Homecoming Mixer for all local HBCU alums and friends of HBCUs.

FREE and drop-in style from 6:30pm - 12:00am, DJ She's A+ will start spinning at 8 or 9pm, there will be HBCU-themed drinks all evening, the full food menu will be available all evening and the weekend late night food special kicks off at 10:00pm.
