POSTS STORIES REELS

Three days of FORWARDS — and what a weekend for Bristol.

From powerful conversations about clean air to unforgettable performances, the festival brought together music, creativity, community and a shared commitment to the city and its environment.

On Friday, 28th, I was privileged to take part in the Clean Air Roundtable with Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah CBE, founder of the Ella Roberta Foundation. Rosamund continues to raise vital awareness of air pollution following the death of her nine-year-old daughter Ella, the first person in the UK to have air pollution listed as a cause of death.

Lorde was the opening performance. Sadly I was unable to stay but heard she gave an amazing performance.

Saturday 29th- Back stage with performers and creatives before Tems took to the stage. What a beautiful soul and outstanding performer, with the most incredible backing visuals.

By Sunday 30th, the legs were definitely feeling it. Despite the rain, i enjoyed brilliant local talent, before Little Simz delivered the ultimate performance, she was phenomenal. Her visuals were off the charts.

There were also some especially meaningful moments. Seeing myself on the big screen as part of the Bristol Avon Rivers Trust film brought conversations about our environment and waterways into the heart of the festival.

I also spent time with my old mate Jasper and his 34th container for Help Bristol Homeless — a beautifully restored living quarter, ready to provide its next guest with a safe place to stay and support them off the streets.

A big thank you to Team Love, Charlotte and Ben, for bringing me in alongside Bristol Avon Rivers Trust and the CreativeColab. I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of it.

That combination of celebration, connection and purpose made FORWARDS so special. It brought together people from across the UK for incredible music, creativity and important conversations — and showcased Bristol at its best.

For me, it brought together so much of what I do:** Nature and Health, Creative Health, Culture, Environment and Community.**

Three days, one festival, a very tired body and a very happy soul. by @sheseclectic1

Yesterday outdoors in Eastville Park wading, with Bristol Avon River Trust and The Big Team (CreativeColab)brought together a small group of partners from film, digital media, creative arts and event organisations to tell the story of our rivers through creativity and collaboration. During our survey, we found a small dam that had been built by dog walkers to create deeper water for dogs to bathe. Although well intentioned, changing the natural flow of a river can disturb habitats and affect the wildlife that depends on them.
The finished film will be shown at the Forward Festival in August, helping to raise awareness of the importance of protecting our rivers for people and wildlife. I love my job…

A brilliant day of learning, collaboration and connecting with nature. by @sheseclectic1

Popped to Tesco Eastgate just now, someone rigged a box with this music to the car lights whilst police was in Tesco…pmsl by @sheseclectic1

Turned up to my friends Soul Train party in pieces I already had in my wardrobe… a kaftan from my mum (1970s), flares, 80s boots, and my butterscotch necklace gifted by my mother-in-law. (Bless their souls). My kind of outfit… full of memories, stories and soul
And then… I walked in and there was the birthday girl wearing her red wig… matching mine 😄❤️
No planning, just pure energy and alignment. Sometimes you don’t need to buy anything new… just show up as you are and let the magic meet you there. Fab night, was in my element, Good Times! 🎉 by @sheseclectic1

This afternoon, I was sat in town feeding my hungry grandsons opposite Boots. As we enjoyed the moment, I noticed someone breathtakingly beautiful walking towards the door. I couldn’t take my eyes off her and blew her a kiss. She smiled gently in return.

My grandson asked, “Do you know her?”
I said, “No, but when I see beauty, I just like to show gratitude.” And with that I said she had to be a model.

Ten minutes later, while continuing the Gromit trail, we saw her again – this time sitting alone in the middle of Broadmead. I went over and asked if she was a model. She said yes.

We introduced ourselves, and I was just about to introduce my grandsons when – suddenly – my youngest let out a loud scream. A wasp had stung him on the neck. Poor thing.

She gently looked at him and said, “Aww baby.”

And just like that, we said our goodbyes. A short but sweet encounter we’ll always remember.

So here she is…Anok Yai in glorious Bristol for H&M 🥰. #modelinbristolcity #Anokyai #suchbeauty #blackbeauty #H&MBristol by @sheseclectic1

Another legend has left this world, but his music remains—vibrant, eternal, undying. Roy Ayers wasn’t just a musician; he was a force, a vibration that resonated through time, touching souls with melodies that never faded. His rhythms weren’t confined to an era—they transcended, bending through decades, speaking to hearts that beat in sync with his groove.

Fast Money—that track, that pulse, that truth—has lived in me since my youth, and now, with him gone, it carries even more weight. A sound that never aged, a message that never dulled, a beat that still knocks like it was made yesterday. His music, his essence, will never rest, not while I breathe, not while I live.

Because legends don’t die. They echo. They ripple through time, carried by those who still listen, those who still feel. And as long as his notes flow through the air, Roy Ayers will never be gone. RIP my brother 🙏🏾🙏🏾 #royares #blackmusic #1983undergroundmusic #choonsofthe80’s

It had to be done as an Environmental Project Officer for Nature and Health and advocate for well-being supporting one of my community groups with the activities they provide to our community. What an incredible achievement! It took courage and determination to step out of my comfort zone, especially in freezing temperatures. My first dip in 4°C water, an empowering and transformative experience. Maggie and the OpenMind team created a supportive and inspiring environment, especially with the focus on women of colour. Well done to those who were there to share this experience with me as we supported each other with words of encouragement. It took me two dips, one upto my hips then into the sauna and again as we sat there telling our story we went again and went deeper.
Cold-water dipping has so many benefits for well-being, both mentally and physically, and I can only recommend to give it a try. I will consider to do it again in the spring when it’s a bit warmer. Well done to all first timers for embracing the challenge and the encouragement, to step into something new for health and happiness! #Openmindsactive #coldwaterdip #westcountrywaterparkbristol #happydays #wellbeing #natureandhealth by @sheseclectic1

I made it to another year (61) and boy it’s been a trial 2024. 16 years and the last 8 months of suffering in my old job and now in a role and place at last where my spirit can sit soft. I’ll keep on celebrating my birthday and every achievement, everyday until further notice, whether alone or with friends. I wore pink with red and the comments of the clashes were …‘never thought of wearing it like that’ WHY? Dress the way you want to dress, be confident and be your own creator of your own catwalk. Fashion is not to be followed but to inspire your own creations, and thanks to my mom (Leonie G) 🙏🏾for giving me the inspirations as the words out of her mouth ‘let the road be your catwalk’ and it continues. #catwalk #pinkandredfashion #lovetodressup #letmebe #61andfeeling fabulous #menopauseboobs #lol #over60 by @sheseclectic1
