Homeward bound after an incredible racing weekend at Knockhill in with the CSCC! The l race of the year for us !

A mixture of day and night racing ! On our schedule was 2 day races (Future Classics & Swinging 60’s) followed by the Mixed category Classic night race !

Eventful to say the least ! We had clear running on a drying track in the morning for both back to back day qualifying sessions with us getting the fastest time of the day in the Swinging Sixties catagory !

Sadly the plan of back to back races didn’t go to plan as a failed water pump stopped us from getting onto the grid for race 2 for our best chance of an overall win on the day! I was really looking forward to racing Mark in his TR5 but it just wasn’t meant to be (again!)

NIGHT RACE! 30 minutes before qualifying it hammered it down with rain - I had never driven this car in the rain, in the dark or on wet tyres 🥴. The rain, however amazingly let the little TR6 split the brute V8 Morgan’s on the grid !

Our race was going very well with us holding 3rd place overall and in the lead for Swinging sixties after the Pitstop (4 races on 1 grid!) again, mechanical failure struck! An intermittent lost of drive started - the beginning of a diff output shaft failure on the drivers side. I managed to just keep the car going (with the luck of a late safety car) to salvage 4th overall and the Swinging 60’s win! Even with a penalty for a safety car infringement from me during the panic of trying to keep the car going.

Again this weekend would not have been possible without our mechanics who kept the car going ! Will & Matt - you guys were bloody amazing - thank you. Along with the tireless support from TR Enterprises too! Teamwork !

I’m sure this car will send me mad at some point !

The Cheshire Cats meeting at Oulton park with Classic sports car club! The meeting we nearly didn’t get to because of a total failure of the crown wheel & pinion in the diff. A stupidly late night and parts supplied by TR Enterprises got us on our way!

We entered 2 races and actually finished !

Race 1 - Swinging sixties.

Race 2 Future Classics

Qualified 9th and 4th in class for Swinging Sixties. Completed just 3 laps before the alternator mounting bolt snapped meaning we lost charging and water pump. We had to quickly fix it along with the distributor which had fallen apart as we were straight back out for qualifying for future Classics. Future Classic qualifying was a nightmare - the car ran like a dog on 4cylinders but we managed to do just enough to be able to get onto the back of the grid. Future classics qualifying result 30th place !!

Swinging Sixties Race- made up good ground off the start. We had a 20 second time penalty to serve after our win at Donington. The safety car came out early after an accident on track. We decided to pit early on the lap the safety car came in. We served the penalty and then carried out the stop cleanly. The car balance felt fairly good but we were having to short shift to manage (yes another) misfire! Which got progressively worse. We finished 8th overall and 2nd in class!

Future Classics ! What a laugh ! We started dead last. 30th on the grid. We finished 13th overall and 1st in class beating a Porsche 911 along the way!

Matt & Will, our mechanics really pull it out the bag to get us on the grid this weekend and I really cannot thank them enough. We will find a reliability sweet spot at some point !

The top the way I won “driver of the day” for my drive from the back of the grid in the future classics race too ! Awesome !

Thank you somuch to everyone who have helped me get on to the grid - you all know who you are ! taken in Oulton Park Circuit by @shf.classics

A shite end to an eventful weekend !

I think it’s just one of those weekends that was never supposed to go right.

Friday testing - wheel bearing Collapse/ seal failure. An issue with fuel mixture on 2 cylinders.

Saturday Swinging Sixties Qualifying - 2 laps then a total headgasket failure and a broken inlet valve

Saturday afternoon - Soph and TR Enterprises were our saviour with all the parts then a 4 hour job between Simon, Charlie & me to get the repair done. New Cylinder head, gasket set, fluids change.

Sunday Future classics qualifying - nightmare session. A very busy track meant we got no clear laps. Also the session was stopped due to an accident - a shame as we were lapping 4 seconds slower than in testing. The lap was good enough for just 3rd in class.

Future Classics race - We lasted 2 laps. 2 bloody laps. The positive terminal on the battery came off which dicing with another car resulting in an early bath.

On the positive side - The race start was good. We gained some places at the start through turns 1 & 2 and the straight line speed of this car compared to others is epic. One particular move up the pit straight was hair raising! For me I am just frustrated as this weekend could have been so much more. At no point did I have full confidence of my turn in or braking points due to limited running. The car is capable of so much more.

Oulton Park next. I’ll be double checking all my electrical connections myself this time ! taken in Classicwise by @shf.classics

@trenterprises2018 really “Pulled it” out the bag with this one….. all didn’t go to plan at Cadwell for me after a silly mistake. I put it into the Armco…. A “tweaked” chassis and a broken rear trailing arm and damaged front suspension meant a big rebuild was needed. It threw into question getting back out before Snetterton….yet here we are. The car is feeling Epic. Let’s see what the weekend brings - another new track for me so lots to learn ! taken in Classicwise by @shf.classics

Cadwell ended early after I put it into the barriers after running too deep into Halls bends. No excuses - complete driver error. The car felt great up to that point with early signs of front running pace. Annoying but “that’s racing”

Thank you everyone in our “team” who came to support. Sorry for the premature end..

Repair it and trust the process 🙏

A day I’ve wished for since I was a little boy and on a day that makes it feel even more special! Just sad the old boy couldn’t be here….but made so special that my little boy saw it all happen !

First ever competitive race today with the Classic & sports car club at Donington Park.

A demanding Pole position a PB 1m20 flat.

Fastest lap

1st overall!

A eventful race with me maintaining the lead from pole before creating a gap to the field. A safety car was deployed just before the Pitstop window. I was completing a 1 driver race meaning a mandatory 1m30 stop was my only option. I dropped to 12th after the stops due to being so munch longer than the rest completing a driver change. 12th to 1st on the track wheel to wheel to bring it home with 1st overall

What a car and what a team I have around me. This would not have happened without the hard work behind closed doors. This is the second attempt at a “first race” after the first attempt resulted in an engine failure in qualifying in March.

A massive massive thank you has to be said to @trenterprises2018 @classicwise_ @leonardjackson91 @happymilbert @thomas_keytr @megjackson23 @mischmashx @charliejbroughton @tboyd1976
An extra special thankyou goes to @simon_j_watson and @sophiefret92 for keeping me from loosing my marbles on the race build up ! by @shf.classics
