Celebrating the spirit of Sudan, this month’s GQ Middle East cover story illuminates the resilience and diversity of the Sudanese people amid ongoing conflict. Since war erupted in April 2023, displacing over eight million and causing immense suffering ever since, media coverage has been scarce, so much so that the lack of coverage of Sudan in the global media could be mistaken that the situation was improving.

Captured through the lens of Ghanaian-Russian artist Liz Johnson Artur (@lizjohnsonartur), Artur’s profound dedication to documenting the African diaspora brings this crucial narrative to the forefront, revealing the strength and beauty of those often overlooked. Featuring over 20 members of Sudan’s creative community, her images in this issue showcase the power of unity, hope, and culture.
