2016 was an enormously pivotal year for me. Exactly 10 years ago I packed up my Brooklyn apt (410 4eva @ashimajainnyc) and drove across the country to make the full time move to Los Angeles. It was a year when life was full of change and exciting opportunities.
- I landed in the same Highland Park neighborhood around the corner from where I live now, in an adorable house that I loooved decorating.
- I met so many new people, reconnected with old friends from NYC and am still close with people I met that first year. Hi @nikeschroeder 👋 @workalook 👋 @sallybaxter_art 👋
- in a crazy stroke of fate, I learned my aunt’s old 1976 motorcycle was sitting in a barn in Missouri and I had it shipped out to LA, to later realize LA drivers are insane and I wouldn’t ever be riding it here.
- work was thriving and I was doing a ton of fun travel jobs in places but also working with amazing people like Kerry Washington, Emma Stone, Norman Lear and Wanda Sykes.
- I also was doing a lot of fun still life work with iHop, Knock Knock, and building giant sets out of paper and cardboard
- I started a little “business” making weed salve called Releaf and probably still have some jars of it in my garage. by @shieldsonset

2025 had no shortage of challenges, loss, and heartache for my community, friends and those around me. The fires that decimated my friends’ homes, the collective daily horror of the hateful monsters in the WH wreaking havoc on our country, ICE Agents terrorizing my hard working neighbors, and the atrocities happening further afield that make me feel horrified and powerless….but still I believe in the power and existence of kindness, generosity and compassion. I believe we each get to wake up and choose kindness and softness and that despite the toxic, ignorant shitshow around us we can still show up in whatever way we can, share our resources, protect and care for our people. Like my mother always taught me, when you feel bad about yourself/your life, the best solution is to do something nice for somebody else 💜💜💜 by @shieldsonset

Had an incredible time today shopping at @costco for my #greatcrateproject Food Drive to start filling up the crates of food that I’ll be distributing to local LA families in need next week. Shout out to every single person who donated, it’s made such a huge impact on how abundant and plentiful they’ll be❤️🩵💙💜 and a special shout out to @a__fig who’s quick math, wit and generosity are unparalleled

Friends!
It’s my birthday this week and I’m doing a little food drive for a dozen special families in need here in LA. I’ll be collecting items over the next couple of weeks (planning to deliver mid-December), but in case you’re not local or would rather throw a few dollars (it’s true, every little bit helps) into the pot for me to shop for them I’d be so grateful!
