242 applications land on the average job opening. Five years ago it was 100. AI made mass applying free, so everyone does it. Your odds on any single one: 0.4%.

In 2016, 15.3% of applicants got an interview. In 2023, 8.4%. In 2026, 3%. Same résumé. Same person. A market that answers one third as often as it did three years ago.

Recent grads: 5.7% unemployed. National average: 4.3%. First time in decades those lines have crossed. 41.8% of employed grads are working below their skill level.
