There are 3 types of San Diego homeowners right now. Which one are you? 👇

1) No solar: about 41¢/kWh on SDG&E's standard plan, 52¢ past your baseline, and 58–69¢ from 4 to 9 PM on time-of-use. Plus a base charge of about 79¢ a day.
2) Solar, no battery: under NEM 3.0, what you send the grid usually earns less than retail. The CPUC says nearly 70% of new solar customers paired a battery by the end of 2024.
3) Solar + battery: during the Sept 9 heat wave, more than 140,000 home batteries sent a record 580 MW to California's grid. On Sept 30, SB 913 was signed so batteries like these can be valued as real grid power.

Honest caveat: the state program behind Sept 9 has funding problems for next year, so don't buy a battery just for grid paychecks. Buy it for your bill and your backup. And solar isn't for every house. Some homeowners I knocked never went solar, and we're still friends today.

San Diego, check your bill insert this month. Here's what's happening. 👀

SDG&E's 2028 General Rate Case asks the CPUC for $280 million more, which is 8.1%. Their own notice says an average home using 400 kWh a month would pay about $14.03 more a month on electric. They also want a formula for another 5.5–8.7% a year from 2029 to 2031.

Where it goes, per SDG&E: wildfire mitigation, gas and grid upgrades, technology, and rising insurance.

Your voice counts. There's a public hearing Nov 10 at Santee City Hall (2 PM and 6 PM), plus phone hearings Dec 9 and 10.

Here's what I'd do: know your numbers before Nov 10. Comment or DM me BILL and I'll show you your bill with and without solar + battery. Free, no pitch unless you ask. I'm saying this because I want your family covered, whatever gets approved. ☀️

the quotes you’re finding online are inflated. heavily. roofing companies bid for your attention and charge accordingly because most people don’t have a reference point.

i have 3 roofers i’ve personally worked with, trust completely, and who compete against each other for every job i send them. that competition keeps pricing honest.

i have seen $40k online quotes come in under $20k through my network. same quality. people i actually vouch for.

DM me ROOF before you pay anyone for a new roof. it’s a free second opinion that could save you a lot of money.

someone asked me last night “why wouldn’t everybody do this?”

and the real answer is: logically, they should.

but we don’t make decisions with logic. we make them with emotion and justify them with logic later. and a lot of people have baggage around solar. horror stories. bad experiences. not trusting the person selling them.

so the fear shows up as “what if the company goes out of business” or “what if my roof leaks”

what people don’t realize is they’re already locked into the scariest agreement of all. a lifetime contract with the utility. no locked rate. no ceiling. no control. just whatever they decide to charge, forever.

a 25-year agreement with a lower locked rate is not the commitment to be afraid of.
