What amazing kai we had tonight for our service! Big thanks to @woolworths_nz @bluebellscakery @kindnesscollectivefoundation, Tender Love and Care and Gilmours Mt Roskill for the amazing donations. We also had some Champion gears to hand out thanks to Kindness Collective. To think this kai could have potentially ended up in landfill 😳 Instead it has fed just under 200 people in the Auckland CBD tonight. Nice one ❤ Lovely to welcome back our amazing volunteers who work seriously hard to put this all together in a few hours, we appreciate you! taken in Ellen Melville Centre by @shiny.bright.new

A lovely Sunday Blessings service tonight with a bunch of amazing volunteers. Love it when we have so many young people come and lend a hand. Our kai bags were filled with delicious goodies from @bluebellscakery @woolworths_nz and Tender Love and Care. How good that all of this beautiful food did not end up in landfill but instead filled the tummies of people facing food insecurity. We had the pleasure of again having @eggplantboys__ cooking up the most succulent meat that was made into yummy sandwiches with the rescued bread from @woolworths_nz
We would really love some help with the bags we need to pack the kai into each week. If you have the means or have a large amount (looking at 100+) please message @sundayblessingsakl 🙂 taken in Ellen Melville Centre by @shiny.bright.new

Today was an appointment day. It was the renal departments turn. I've been coming here for a little while as the waiting list for cardiology is so long. This department seems to pick up the people who need check ups but cant get into the actual department they need to be in! Our health care system is under massive strain and its very concerning. I don't enjoy these ones. I have put on a lot of weight since I became unwell and nothing I do is shifting it! Trust me, I am trying and have tried a lot! It's seems to be the default thing to pick on in this place and I leave feeling awful and a total failure (again!). It's a confusing place to be in. I know it's mostly fluid from my heart stuff as per my cardiologist but frustrating that some doctors still assume I don't take care of myself. Just need to keep reminding myself that I know my body best and I know that I am trying my hardest! If only I didn't need to come to this clinic and I had access to cardiology fulltime. Another MRI booked. Another blood test. Another little step on this journey. by @shiny.bright.new

For about 2 years I have been struggling with some major health struggles. I have been hiding away full of shame and frustration. My mental health has been low but this past year it has been the worst it has ever been. Not being able to fully participate in life and hearing constant negatives has taken a huge toll on me. On Tuesday 16 April 2024 at 2pm I was diagnosed with a genetic heart disease called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. It's in the advanced stages. There is no cure. After feeling like maybe all these symptoms were in my head and I wasn't taking care of myself, pushing myself far too hard thinking I was useless, it's been confirmed none of this journey is my fault. Just hearing those words, "it's not your fault, Sara" has been quite healing.
I don't want to hide away anymore. My life is about to take a new direction and this journey is only just beginning for me and my little whānau. There are lots of upcoming tests, poking and proding, being attached to machines, the unknown and hoping and seriously praying my beautiful son's don't have this (It's passed through families, I don't know my family so didn't know until now). I am really scared. I am relieved though. I am determined to get some kind of normality back. Finally a path, a curly one, but at least now I know what I need to fight 💗 by @shiny.bright.new
