Becoming a pet mom wasn’t something I planned;
it just happened, and it changed me in ways I never expected. I’ve never considered myself an animal person, still I am not;

but my journey into pet parenthood began when my Girl entered my life, her eyes reflecting a world of love and trust. In caring for her, I discovered a reservoir of strength I never knew I had.

People might not understand the bond between a pet and their parent and make fun or laugh at me, but to me, it’s everything. It’s about finding beauty in the unconventional and embracing the joy of nurturing a four-legged soul.

Raising a pet is a roller coaster of emotions; it’s navigating a world where looks and silent gestures are the language, yet somehow, we understand each other perfectly.

The loss you chose is the one nobody prepares you for.

Not the thing taken from you.
The thing you put down yourself, while some part of you still loved it.

I have done this more than once now, and more than once with people I had always been told were family.

I tried to repair it first, every time, because I am the kind of person who tries to fix a thing before deciding it is broken. When it did not hold, I stopped.

No announcement.
No explanation offered to anyone who was not there.
Just quiet, and then more quiet, and then a life with considerably less noise in it.

The moment stays. The guilt didn’t.

I grew up without a safe place to talk.

There were people around me.
But there wasn’t always somewhere I could take the things I was carrying.

Which is why I have never believed the answer is simply “just talk to someone.”

The harder question is who feels safe enough to talk to.

I wasn’t allowed posters on my walls as a kid.
So @vijaymallyaofficial went into my diary instead.

I’ve been defending him at dinner tables ever since, usually to people who formed their entire opinion from one headline and three memes.
