Antigua!! Thank you! 🇦🇬❤️ Back to earth with a pretty heavy bump!😳 But! We’ve brought back some wonderful memories! As well as some rum ( naturally), a fading suntan, a mountain of dirty clothes and (not too many this year!) mosquito bites! 😂 I was also a VERY lucky girl, having been upgraded by @british_airways to Club World! It was heavenly!! Just the most amazingly wonderful way to start my holiday. Thank you, BA, so much!! 🙏❤️ Meanwhile, Al, who was back in Premium, very kindly had a ‘Johnny Ginger’ (my new favourite cocktail!) brought to him from Club World! 🥂😁 I’ve rounded up some of my favourite moments, including a video of turtles swimming (we actually swam with them!).🐢 We met some delightful people. We drank delicious cocktails. Saw some spectacular sunsets. Slept in the comfiest beds! Read books under the palms! Ate far too well (the food at @stjamesantigua is sublime!). Then tried, with some difficulty, to work it all off in their very well-equipped gym! 😂 And a special thank you to all the wonderful staff and people at @stjamesantigua. The setting is beautiful, but it’s the people who make it so special! ❤️ See you next year! #britishairways #stjamesclubantigua #holiday #besttime #antiguaandbarbuda by @shivicate
The hardest bit is the getting me out bit…😂💦 With six pools & two beaches to choose from at @stjamesantigua you’re spoilt for choice… BUT!! My very favourite has to be the adults only pool! 🥰 Blissfully quiet & oh so peaceful…& very occasionally you even get it all to yourself. 💙 Although I must admit I’m a little put out when I do have to share! 😂😉 #stjamesclubantigua #stjamesclub #antiguaandbarbuda #visitantigua #antigualife by @shivicate
Have you guessed it yet? 🤔 THOSE BLOODY MOSQUITOES!!! 🦟😩😂 But! I’ve discovered some very useful tips over the years! Sadly, I can’t stop those little critters from biting, BUT I have discovered ways to help those bites become less angry & itchy! And it really does work! 🙌 🦟 Antihistamines I started taking antihistamine tablets 3–4 days before my trip and have continued taking one a day. The bites are a lot less angry and a lot less itchy. No more waking up at night scratching! 🥰 It’s made a big difference to this holiday! ❤️ Just to be clear, antihistamines don’t stop mosquitoes biting you! They’ve simply made my reaction to the bites much less severe. 🦟 The Warm Spoon Trick! 🥄 When those bites are itching and driving you crazy here’s a little trick that does the trick for me every time!👍 Hold a comfortably warm spoon against the bite for a few seconds. It really helps to soothe that itching! Just make sure it’s warm, NOT hot! You don’t want to give yourself second-degree burns! 😂🥄 🦟 Roll On Mosquito Repellent This trip, I’ve been using Jungle Formula roll on because I can’t stand the smell of sprays & I also really dislike breathing in the fumes! 😷 All I’ve been doing…is applying it to my pulse points, particularly around my ankles ( liberally )…it has made a big difference! 🙌 The instructions recommend applying the roll on to exposed skin, but I’m not a fan of covering myself in it. I’ve found applying it to my pulse points has helped…although that doesn’t guarantee full protection.😊 🦟 Loose & Floaty! 👗 Another little tip I’ve picked up over the years…wear loose, floaty clothing! Those pesky beasts can nibble straight through tight fitting clothes ( one even bit its way through my gym leggings this morning!😂 ) so the looser, the better! Tightly woven fabrics are by far the best! Less scratching……MORE relaxxxxing!😜🍹 #mosquitotipsandtricks #antiguaandbarbuda #mosquitos #mozziebites #relaxation by @shivicate
Simple pleasures……🌴📖 ❤️Getting up before the world wakes up. ❤️A cup of my favourite @teapigs liquorice & peppermint tea. ( Coffee comes later 🥰) ❤️My faithful journal (faithful because it has to put up with all my ramblings!) ❤️The sound of the ocean. ❤️A gentle sea breeze. What a joy to have such a gentle start to my day. This simply never happens when I’m at home! I’ve been keeping a diary on and off since I was about 13. In those days, my teenage hormonal scribblings were kept under a flimsy lock and key, which I genuinely believed would keep intruders out! 😂 These days, my diary sits beside my bed..wherever I am in the world. No more top secrets…just my thoughts, concerns, joys & everything going on in my head & my life.🥰 #antigua #diary #journaling #beachvibes #peaceandharmony by @shivicate
I first came to Antigua to celebrate being alive. 21 years later, that’s what I’m still doing! 🥰 After breast cancer, I received a small critical illness insurance payout & decided to use it to give myself something special… …a week in Antigua to return to every year. I always extend my stay with a few extra days in the hotel before moving into my villa @stjamesantigua Over the years, @stjamesantigua has become so much more than a holiday destination. It’s my home from home, a place incredibly dear to my heart, & somewhere I feel I belong!❤️ I still get emotional every time I return.🥰 To me, it’s so much more than a holiday. It’s my little celebration of life, year after year. And I’m forever thankful! ❤️ #stjamesclubantigua #mamorabay #antigua #breastcancersuvivor #holiday by @shivicate
I’m simply lost without my ready readers! I always make sure I have plenty dotted around the house…& when packing for our recent Greek holiday, these three gorgeous pairs were the first things in my case! 🤓 Sydney…big, round, lightweight & fun in tortoiseshell GL2352 Jamie…square tortoiseshell ready-reader sunnies GL2335S Charli…bold & beautiful in white tortoiseshell GL2348 All with sprung hinges and their own protective grey carry case. Which pair is your favourite? I love them all! 🥰 AD/PR Kindly gifted by @goodlookersuk #readyreaders #goodlookers #funandfabulous #sunnieslover #eyewearstyle by @shivicate
Every sunset is magical…🧡 I would say that sunset is my favourite time of day (well, maybe it is in Greece!)…but I’m not sure that I see that many sunsets at home! 😁 And as I’ve got older my ‘night owl’ status has most definitely been removed & officially replaced with ‘almost early bird’! However, I’d definitely draw the line at rising at 5am…unless, of course, it’s an airport run! Then both statuses get merged somewhere in the middle into a horrible sleepless mess! 😂 This one will have to last me…for a little while anyway! 🧡😁 #santorinisunset #santorinigreece #greeksunset #santorinimagic cyclades by @shivicate
Why this is my favourite kind of morning in Greece!⬇️🇬🇷 💙The early morning light 💙Having the place ( almost ) to yourself! 💙The promise of a new day! 💙Watching the world wake up. 💙Freddo Espresso ☕️ 💙No rushing, no plans, no appointments. 💙A chance to just be.🥰 💙The smell of warm, freshly baked bread. 💙The smell of freshly brewed coffee 💙Finding a quiet corner to read. 💙Dreaming in the early morning sunshine. 💙Exploring without the crowds! And somehow…the day just feels a little longer!🥰 #kalimera #earlymorning #folegandros #quiettime #greekislands🇬🇷 by @shivicate
The calm after the storm… From Serifos to Folegandros… (poor Al, his feet barely touched the ground! 😄) And a little moment of quiet. ⛪️🙏🥰 #Folegandros #GreekIslands #CycladicTherapy #IslandHopping #CalmAfterTheStorm 🇬🇷💙 by @shivicate
Waiting… For the ferry… After 6 hours sitting on the runway at Gatwick ( going absolutely nowhere ), a cancelled fight, 2 nights back at home trying to rearrange a new flight, to a different destination ( not Athens but Santorini) in the hope to catch a ferry to me! Al’s new flight…supposed to depart at 06.50, but left an hour later. 😳 The ferry departure was 14.25.🥴 The plane landed at 13.12 😟 The passport queue was long. 😫 Finally, out of the airport ( no luggage to wait for…all cabin allowance ) & into a taxi! 🙏 Time 14.01 , taxi to Athinios port 21 minutes!! Ferry late by 5 minutes ( thank goodness!! 😅) & Al got on! Finally, the Greek Gods conspired & Al made it to Serifos & to me! 🥰🇬🇷💙 #Serifos #GreekIslands #CycladicTherapy #AgainstAllOdds #HeMadeIt by @shivicate
Life has a way of changing plans…for better or worse. Whatever happens, I always like to think that everything happens for a reason!🤔 Al should have been here this morning. Instead, yesterday he spent over six hours sitting on a plane at Gatwick…going absolutely nowhere, thanks to the UK air traffic control problems. 😳✈️ Trying to get him on another flight today proved impossible, so hopefully he’ll make it tomorrow… 🙏 In the meantime, I’m doing my very best to cope with the situation… This involves sitting at a gorgeous beach bar, working my way through the menu! It’s tough..obviously! But somebody has to do it. 😂🇬🇷💙 #CycladicLife #GreekIslandDays #HolidayChaos #MakingTheBestOfIt #MeanwhileInGreece by @shivicate
