Long overdue finished paintings. Since I have decreased my painting, will most likely proceed with process painting and completed at the end. I’m still tossing it around. Hoping I get the painting “bug” back. ❤️‍🔥 taken in Sacramento, California by @shivrowart

I kept this video in normal speed so you get to see what I experience in a given day in my studio and how slow and precise I actually lay down my paints and blow. You normally see me x4 speed to save time and tonight I decided not to. Snapping and some singing apparently were had by all (me)—can’t go wrong with Mr. @brentfaiyaz taken in Sacramento, California by @shivrowart

I have been doing a TON of testing and research on my metallics in my Dutch pours because they were producing massive cells that were impacting the integrity of my paintings.

As artists, we put a lot of thought into what we do and how we do it. Fluid art isn’t just tossing some paint onto a canvas. There is chemistry involved. There is testing, refinement, experimentation, mistakes—and sometimes even BIGGER mistakes. 😂 But that’s how we learn and grow.

Being self-taught, it has taken me YEARS to learn what I know—and I mean years of painting almost daily.

When I started my fluid art journey about four years ago, what I often encountered were unanswered questions. Artists who wouldn’t share their hairdryer brand, paint brands, palette knife, ratios, recommendations, or techniques. I understand that everyone has the right to protect what they’ve worked hard to develop, but for me, it often felt like hitting a brick wall.

So I kept going. I was determined as hell. I experimented, failed, tried again, researched, tested, and learned.

And I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have artists in my life who support me. Even when they don’t know the answer, they help me look for one. And when they DO know the answer? They share it freely.

That’s what supporting another artist looks like to me.

I compare it to my nursing career. What if 30 years ago, as a brand-new nurse, my predecessors had said, “ I’m not going to share my knowledge. Figure it out yourself.”

Where would any of us be?

We are only as strong as those who came before us AND those who come after us.

So I share freely—in my profession and in my art.

If something I’ve learned through years of testing, experimenting, and sometimes failing can help another artist avoid a mistake or move forward in their own journey, then I’m happy to share it.

It doesn’t take anything away from me. It lifts all of us.

That’s simply how I believe we should support one another.

And honestly… it’s just the right thing to do. taken in Sacramento, California by @shivrowart
