Penang Bridge International Marathon 2025

HM 1:47 ➡️ 1:39 🔥

Go PB or go DNF?
This time, I chose go PB.

After injuring my ankle, my knee started hurting too. My mileage and intensity have been dropping over the past two months, and honestly, it messed with my confidence.

At first, I told myself that beating my previous PB of 1:47 would be good enough. But deep down, I couldn’t let go of the sub-100 dream. I’d trained for a whole year — letting go felt like saying all that effort didn’t matter.

I arrived early at the venue (11am) and was placed in Pen 1, which meant lining up on the front row with Kenyans and elite runners. I was genuinely excited — and maybe a little nervous 😂

Starting so far up front, the first kilometer went out too fast. By km 7, my knee pain was real. I kept asking myself if I should DNF, save my knee, and come back stronger next time. But this time, I chose to keep going. I tried every strange running form I could think of until the pain slowly faded.

When I saw my heart rate climb past 185 bpm, I made a decision: no more looking at heart rate. And sure enough, it went so high that if I had kept watching it, I probably would’ve stopped.

At km 13, just as fatigue really hit and I wanted to slow down, an uncle I had passed earlier overtook me again. His pace felt chaseable. So I followed — telling myself, chase if you can, slow down if you must.
That mindset carried me all the way through the final 8 km.

From that point on, I stopped looking at heart rate, pace, and time. I focused only on my breathing and how many kilometers were left.

Crossing the finish line, I was genuinely shocked and overjoyed to see the clock showing 1:39.
Sub-100. I actually did it.

Against pain. Against doubt. Against every excuse.
Top 150. Special gift earned.
Every goal I set this year — done.

Next chapter? Next year.

It’s a wrap. 🏁🔥

I like how running quiets the noise.

For a little while, the world slows down, the worries fade, and all that matters is the next step.

What I didn't expect was finding Soar Highs who would become more than teammates.

Somewhere along the miles, a team became a family.
