Soon after October 7th we put up this Bring Hersh Home sign in front of our home. Our goal was to share Hersh’s story with people outside our own community. The sign elicited mostly positive reactions and conversations. I dreamed that one day we would paint a big RESCUED across the sign. Last night after we heard the tragic news that Hersh and the other hostages were found murdered we sadly removed the sign. Today we found a man named Bob, in front of our lawn looking at the empty sign posts with his head bowed in prayer. My husband went over to thank him and Bob hugged him and said he is not Jewish but every day he would drive by our house and pray for Hersh and all the hostages. He said the sign was his connection to the hostage crisis. In these dark days Bob gave us a spark of light that you do not need to be Jewish and it doesn’t matter what aisle of the political spectrum you sit on to understand that stealing innocent people and holding them hostage for 11 months then murdering them is not OK.
Rachel and Jon your dignity, strength, poise and commitment has spread to more people then you can even imagine. Your fight has not been in vain. We will continue fighting for the release of the remaining hostages and for our people and country 🇮🇱May Hersh’s memory be a blessing. We love you , stay strong , survive. ❤️ by @shlomit1
