#japanuary Day 9: Traditional Japan
In April 2008, my friends and I went to a studio near Kiyomizu Temple to dress as maiko, or geisha in training. If you love geisha, I highly recommend doing this! I definitely came away from the experience with a greater appreciation for the artistry that goes into creating this look. You can choose the kimono you want to wear and I specially chose this red kimono because it reminded me of an ad I saw for the Miyako Odori in Gion.

I don’t think I’ve ever shared this photo here before. Long story short, when I lived in Japan, I was approached by a local hair stylist to be a hair model. It was really funny. He started talking about the idea, he was like “there’s this myth about four gods…” and I was like “You mean Fushigi Yugi??” And he was like “omg you know!” Anyway, I’m suppose to be evoking Seiryu the Blue Dragon with this look. I don’t think of myself as very “cool,” but I think this is probably the coolest thing I’ve ever done. LOL. The time stamp in this photo is February 16, 2007.

@thecaitlinflynn and I were walking around Park Slope this weekend when we ran into the famous @therippedbodice ! I’ve heard so much about it! I’m not really a romance reader but Caitlin suggested The Wedding People, so I will give it a go!
