A mechanic in Australia, a lawyer in Paris, a potter in Marrakech, a hairdresser in Sydney, a neon blower in New York, a musician in Geneva, a Royal Mail postman in London, a fisherman in Greece, a dyer in Cairo... All these people who are doing their job well—the hatarakimono—whom we went to photograph one by one over 3 years, across 33 countries and 43 different locations.
Now, the time has come to prepare the book and the exhibition to showcase this Extra-Ordinary photographic archive, comprising a total of 534 portraits (+ 102 taken in Japan during the initial project).
We’ve just put up 14 of them on our studio wall... so that leaves 520 more!
In Japanese, there’s a phrase: "chotto zutsu"... meaning "just a little bit at a time." That’s exactly it!

The main question isn't what we’ll do with this project, but rather: what purpose can it serve?

Wishing you a wonderful day.

We are very Black & White ...
... but this new supra-size tape-o-graph of a Star Magnolia is all in Color with beautiful pink flowers, off-white petals and a light greyish-blue background.
It's part of our "Extra-Ordinary plants & flowers" series photographed last spring down the road of our studio in Tokyo.

When you enter our studio/house in Shimoda you will be facing a PPC [Photo Poetic Contraption] that allows us to "setup" the weather forecast. We can add more sun, regulate outside temperatures, add more clouds in the sky, blow some wind, bring a bit of rain and even launch storms with lightnings.... the purpose of this control panel is to make sure we can always have s perfect weather conditions when we go on "photographic botanical expeditions down the road" to take pictures of Extra-Ordinary plants & flowers.
So far it's been working quite well...
