Screen Professional of the Year Award 2026 ✨

So grateful to @screenqueensland for the invitation & the ticket, the team @gcfilmfest for an amazing awards night, the @cityofgoldcoast for celebrating local creatives and to the @tagtravelgroup for the trophy and the recognition. I really appreciate it 🏆🥹🎬

As an actor led producer @manafilmproductions with some stunt, motion capture and game developer skills, I’m dedicated to keeping the Gold Coast on top as one of the best cities to film in.

A huge shout out to my fellow nominees and award winners on the night, it’s a pleasure to share creative space with you. 🙏🏽Here’s to all things film & tv on the Gold Coast whether your an actor, producer, director, writer, crew, stunt person, screen industry professional, screen leader, studio manager etc the list goes on.. 🫶🏽

Lastly, grateful for my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, my culture as a Maori Samoan woman, my family, my screen mentors and coaches, my amazing peers in film that inspire me everyday and to the entire Gold Coast screen community and the whole of QLD, thank you… if we’ve worked together let’s continue to create, and if we haven’t, you’ll find me at KFC 🍗 if you know, you know…the last slide is for my inner child.. 😍

Cheers SPA WEEKEND 🎬🧖🏾‍♀️🥂 My body clocked in so @michellebuteau ‘s body didn’t have to 😂💀

I had the absolute privilege of stunt doubling the brilliant Michelle as one of the leads in SPA WEEKEND from jumping out of golf buggy’s before it went over a cliff, landing heavy and car speeding in the name of cinema 🔥

Huge love to our fearless stunt coordinator @paulhalfy somehow made professional speeding, drifting and public damage feel like a SEND IT exercise. To my three ladies @maddisonmellers @brianna_ferguson @nandalie_stunts I was in awe of you! So grateful to have shared that time with you all on set 🩷 and huge shout out to the rest of the stunties! The bruises may fade, but the incriminating footage of our 🍑🐈’s is forever 😂

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger 💪

After Shonee Samia recovered from a brain tumour, she was diagnosed with another soon after. By completing a bucket list, the Maori-Samoan screen professional told Nesia Daily she began a path to her life's passion: acting.

The new lease of life gave her the willpower to chase her dreams and save her life, making every moment count. by @shoneesamia

MY CUP IS FULL 🥹🎬❤️ never did i think I’d walk into a room full of strangers… and somehow leave with a whole new film whānau, aiga (family)! From the aroha, to the humour, the honest korero, the generosity, the stories, the gems, the inspiration, the people…and especially my people 🥹 you guys make me so damn proud and inspired to be a storyteller 🇼🇸🇳🇿this generation of storytellers are making waves 🌊😍

Grateful to have sat with producers, directors, writers, broadcasters and actors I’ve admired for years and what I’ll remember most is how kind everyone was but that’s just culture for you 🤏🏽🤏🏽🤏🏽

Shonee Samia is a Māori and Samoan woman of Ngāti Raukawa descent, originally from Aotearoa/New Zealand, who has proudly called the Gold Coast home for the past 21 years.

Raised as the eldest daughter in a family rooted in faith, discipline, culture and service, with parents from military and law enforcement backgrounds, resilience and sacrifice were values Shonee carried from a young age.

Before the world knew her as a force in film and television, she was building a career in tech, eventually working with Electronic Arts on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the 2023 IGN Adventure Game of the Year. But storytelling kept calling her home.

Today, Shonee works across film, television, gaming, stunts and motion capture. She is an actor, stuntwoman, producer and the founder of Mana Film Productions — a company built on creating impactful stories and opening genuine doors for Māori, Pasifika and culturally diverse creatives.

Her mission is clear, to make sure people of colour are seen as heroes, leads, lovers, survivors and complex human beings, not confined to stereotypes.

Off screen, Shonee is a national powerlifter who currently holds the Australian Powerlifting League national deadlift record in her division. For her, strength has always meant something deeper than sport.

A serious illness in her early twenties became the turning point that reshaped everything, pushing her toward a life lived with purpose, creativity and impact.

Named Gold Coast Screen Professional of the Year 2026, Shonee continues to create space for young Māori, Pasifika and diverse creatives to walk boldly into every room, without leaving who they are at the door.

Humbled to share I’ve been invited to speak at the @aacta event on the “Navigating the Screen Industry as an actor” panel! 🎤🎥

For those that don’t know, the AACTA awards is where actors, film makers, entertainment professionals and celebrities within Australia are awarded for their achievements. It’s also a chance to unite screen lovers, filmmakers and industry leaders with the community and anyone who wants to be involved or learn more.

In saying that, I’m grateful to share the stage with some awesome actors who have been in the industry a lot longer than I have 😅 but im looking forward to sharing my secrets on how to navigate both the screen industry (especially as a freelance actor) and my own (imposter syndrome) at the time but hey 😂
