It’s been a couple of years since we’ve shared a deer hunt so I’ve been waiting all year for this one! Arriving late to camp we got to bed about 1am. With only 4.5hrs of sleep and a mountain to climb for our morning vantage, it was a bit of struggle but were in the deer quickly. We glassed this buck up over 1,000 yards away with a doe and watched him feed and bed. We couldn’t make a move right away because we had other does & bucks in a few different directions between us and him. Before we moved he fed over the hill. We played the wind right and Koehn spotted a bedded doe as we skirted the backside of the mountain we seen him on, and I noticed the buck bedded just behind her. A few moments later they stood. Koehn was already set up and 💥that’s all she wrote! Couldn’t be happier for Koehn. His best buck to date and 1st CA Muley. 🦌 #camuledeer by @shoot4outdoors

@koltonramos_ and I found just one bird today. We called at each other for a bit. Had him in tight behind us in thick stuff. Held up and then worked away. So we went after him! Great day in the woods with my boy 👊🏼 Thanks bub 🫶🏼

Thankful!

A lot built up to this trip. A few slides can never tell the story. Of course I would have preferred to have our boys or a buddy along for the ride. But a week alone, no tech, no signal was just what I needed. Brisk refreshing weather. Magnificent views and loads of deer. In the end the harvest doesn’t quite match up to the great experience. But that’s ok. 2 bucks in one year? CA + CO
I’ll take it. Looking forward to Thanksgiving now with my loves. 🙌🏼 by @shoot4outdoors

Words can’t do it justice. You just have to see it! It’s a great thing to have these public lands that belong to all Americans. 🇺🇸

1 short of a full bunch on this trip. @kramos_ig we’ll have to do it again.
1 day each at Yellowstone and Tetons wasn’t enough. Can’t recommend it enough if you’ve never been. taken in Yellowstone National Park by @shoot4outdoors

@rokslide Robby, any podcasts you can point me to that can help me figure how to tag this guy?
3 years in a row showing up on cameras in the basin I’m hunting. One close encounter during archery. Still-hunting type area. Not many vantage points. Playing the wind/thermals. Solo hunt. Non cellular cameras.

-SLEEP-
Floor-less shelter? NOPE! ⛺️Change my mind.
I’ve heard the pros to the tarp, or teepee floor-less type. Can’t stand the thought of critters crawling in my clothes or mouth at night. 😬
.
Got this @bigagnes_ Pioneer at an @rei garage sale for about $65 in great shape years ago. Weighs about 2lbs without poles (use trekking poles or forest pole)
.
Plenty of room for one + gear, doable for two for a couple of nights. Always open to suggestions.

Predator management is necessary in the outdoors. I believe very few people want to see any animal wiped out. They all have a place and are cool to see outdoors. Doing a little research will reveal that coyotes are incredibly adaptable and play a role in the ecosystem, but unchecked populations can put heavy pressure on deer fawn survival. That goes for other predators as well like bear, mountain lion and bobcat. I’ve witnessed it first hand (coyote attacking fawn)

This coyote was taken legally and ethically in an effort to contribute to a balanced landscape. If you’re a hunter, I encourage you to support predator management efforts, and organizations that advocate for it like @howl_org

Have you seen the impact of predators in your area?

Couldn’t pass up the invite from @preston_doherty to chase gobbles on public land. Got to see some beautiful country and Preston worked hard to get birds to us. After seeing a couple of Toms 🦃 come close and then disappear, we knew they were still hanging near by. Staying completely still, a Jake showed up and presented an easy shot. My gut told me to be patient and this Tom came back out next to the Jake at about 20 yards. The rest was history. 1st turkey hunt in the books…and I never thought I’d say this, but yeah, I got the bug now! Thanks again bro 👊🏼
