Please Share this post: The remaining materials that made up my art installation Chromo Sapiens has been taken hostage by liljabaldurs at hofudstodin who refuses to come to terms with the fact that our collaboration has already ended! It has become completely defunct after years of communication breakdown. I am the only author and sole owner of the art installation called Chromo Sapiens. My requests, to stop working with liljabaldurs due to mutual distrust, continue to be ignored or denied!!!!

I am still locked out of the building that houses my studio in Iceland, as well as the remainder of “the artwork formerly known as Chromo Sapiens”. I am working with a team of lawyers, artist union leaders, advisors and my incredible peers and wonderful supporters, to put an end to this standoff driven by the obsession of a single person who believes she has a self appointed right to represent me and Chromo Sapiens “to infinity”, against my wishes, without my approval, without my consent and without any legal or moral merit!
I have been tremendously proud of the project and the concept nevertheless but some things just don’t work out as you hoped and planned …projects just come to an end…

It is NOT Chromo Sapiens

As proud as I’ve been of this mad project that is Höfuðstöðin Culture Center, I came to the conclusion that it is no longer feasible to continue due to the co-founders strategic misalignment regarding both creative direction and business decisions at Höfuðstöðin.

I am in the process of exiting the partnership founded in 2021.

As is well within my legal rights, I have started to remove my large scale installation artwork
Chromo Sapiens.
Only I, the author, hold the ownership of Chromo Sapiens.

The artwork is 100% protected by my intellectual property rights and ownership that prohibits anyone other than myself, the author, from reassembling or opening it to viewers without my involvement and blessing.

Opening and selling tickets after August 17th 2026 when I announced the closure of the work is breaking international and Icelandic laws on copyright and artists intellectual property rights.

I am taking legal action and appreciate your support while I fight to gain access and remove the remainder of my artwork still within the premises of the project I founded and own but can no longer enter safely.

Chromo Sapiens says farewell to Höfuðstöðin
I want to thank everyone who came to visit my artwork Chromo Sapiens at Höfuðstöðin in Reykjavik, Iceland.
I was commissioned to create this multi sensory and immersive installation together with curator Birta Guðjónsdóttir for the Icelandic Pavilion at the Venice Biennial in Italy in 2019. After months of receiving thousands of visitors to the pavilion housed by Spazio Punch exhibition space in Giudecca Venice, the director of Hafnarhúsið Reykjavik Art Museum invited me to bring the large scale installation and its soundscape by the band HAM and Skúli Sverrisson, to Iceland. Once again, together with my incredible team of “Chromos”, we installed it anew and opened the exhibition at Hafnarhúsið in January 2020.
Since January 2022 Chromo Sapiens has been an integral part of a cultural center project I founded with Lilja Baldursdóttir we called Höfuðstöðin, located in Reykjavik, where my artwork Chromo Sapiens has been visited by so many guests both local patrons as well as visitors from all over the world.
My heart is full of gratitude to the ocean of people that have made their way to bathe in the colors of the caves that make up the artwork in all those three locations.
I especially want to thank all the wonderful staff through the years at Höfuðstöðin for taking care of my artwork on a daily basis.
The time has come to say goodbye to Höfuðstöðin,
what happens next, only time will tell...
