THE MEANING BEHIND THE ICON:
I never got to meet my grandmother, Evelyn. She passed well before I was born. But she has showed up in unconventional ways. In the little things that have been passed down from person to person and somehow landed in my room or on my plate. Her chocolate pie recipe (that’s really hard to master). A little horse vignette she painted hanging in my bathroom. The needlepoint stockings she made decades ago that hang on the mantle at Christmas.

The root of her name translates to “bird” which made me smile because my other grandmother, Jeannie - who I spent my childhood half at her house just down the street from my own sneaking candies while playing with her silky slips and pink lipsticks… Jeannie LOVED birds. Everything in her little blue room were either shells or birds.

The swan is a nod to my grandmothers and the honor that it is to follow in the wake of the women who came before me. Also a wink at the watershed interest from younger generations in the art of needlepoint that has occurred over the past few years (myself included).
