Join us on the shores of Twin Lakes in Western Michigan for a deeply restorative retreat designed to help you slow down, reset, and turn inward. Surrounded by snow-covered grounds, frozen waters, and the warmth of cozy cabins, you’ll experience the beauty of winter as a gentle reminder that rest is not only necessary, but transformative.

Dates: January 15th-18th

Location: South Shore Resort & Retreats

Price: $900 - $1200

Deposit: $250

During our time together, we will embrace one and a half days of intentional silence, creating space to quiet the mind and listen more deeply to ourselves. Without the constant distractions of conversation and technology, clarity begins to emerge, intuition becomes easier to hear, and the nervous system has the opportunity to fully exhale.

Each day includes gentle morning yoga to awaken the body and restorative evening yoga to invite deep relaxation. Meditation practices and immersive sound baths will help calm the mind, restore balance, and cultivate presence.

There will also be plenty of unstructured time to simply be. Curl up beside a natural wood-burning fireplace with a warm cup of tea, journal your intentions for the year ahead, take a peaceful walk through the snow, or simply rest as winter works its quiet magic.

This retreat is an opportunity to begin the new year differently. Rather than rushing into resolutions or striving for more, you’ll be invited to slow down, reconnect with your inner wisdom, and create space for what truly matters.

Leave feeling grounded, refreshed, and deeply connected to yourself, carrying a sense of calm and clarity into the year ahead! taken in South Shore Resort and Retreats by @shoresyoga

🌿 START WHERE YOU ARE 🌿

A 4-Week Series for Beginners or Those Making a Gentle Return to Their Practice

📅 Sundays in November
Beginning November 8
⏰ 1:00–2:30 PM

Maybe you’ve always wanted to try yoga but never knew where to start. Maybe you had a consistent practice but life pulled you away. Or maybe your body, your confidence, or your season of life has changed, and you’re looking for a slower, more supportive way to return.

Start Where You Are is a welcoming 4-week series created for complete beginners and anyone finding their way back to the mat.

We’ll slow everything down and spend time learning the foundations of yoga in a comfortable, judgment-free environment. Together, we’ll explore basic poses, breathing, alignment, modifications, and simple flows while learning how to make the practice work for your body.

There is no expectation to be flexible, experienced, strong, or “good at yoga.”

You simply have to be willing to begin. 🤍

Come exactly as you are.
Move at your own pace.
Ask questions.
Reconnect with your body.
Build confidence.
And discover—or rediscover—a practice that can meet you right where you are.

Whether this is your very first yoga class or your first class back in a long time, you are welcome here.

Resistance doesn’t necessarily mean protesting or fighting against something. It can mean refusing domination, challenging the structures and conditioning that shape us, cultivating independence, protecting our communities, or simply noticing the patterns within ourselves that we are ready to question.

If you practice yoga, you are likely already practicing resistance.

We resist the urge to react. We resist the mind’s constant desires. We resist the tendency to tune out, avoid, or ignore what is uncomfortable. We practice staying present when it would be easier to disconnect.

Yoga asks us to stay close to truth. Through practice, we begin to notice the kleśas, the patterns and afflictions that can cloud our perception and keep us from seeing clearly. The practice invites us to look beyond the veils of conditioning and ask: What is actually true for me? What have I simply been taught to believe?

Throughout history, yogic and related contemplative traditions have intersected with questions of freedom, identity, social hierarchy, and justice. Ancient renunciants stepped outside conventional social structures. Medieval devotional movements challenged established caste and religious hierarchies. Later practitioners drew on spiritual disciplines and philosophies in responding to colonialism and political oppression.

I can’t count how many times my own yoga practice has challenged my beliefs. It has challenged my spiritual beliefs, my political beliefs, and even beliefs I’ve inherited from family, friends, and the communities around me. It has challenged me to consider when to speak up and when to sit down. When to act and when to listen. When acceptance is wisdom and when acceptance becomes complacency.

It isn’t always an easy path. But yoga doesn’t ask us for perfection. It asks for practice. Persistence. Awareness. And grace.

So this month, I’m inviting us to honor those who have come before us who practiced forms of radical resistance, social justice, activism, service, and liberation. And perhaps, more importantly, I’m inviting us to turn that inquiry toward ourselves. taken in Shores Yoga Studio by @shoresyoga

So many questions about my red light therapy. So here is the short of the long.

I bought it to help with inflammation in my back. Data shows cells preform better with red and near infrared light support. I’m also using it on my face to support my facial skin and research shows it may help with hair growth.

I tested out the @mitoredlightofficial at my local yoga studio, @shoresyoga. Motor is a medical grade red light which is key. I used the full body light at the studio but opted for the smaller panel at home due to cost.

Something I didn’t expect from this new practice is that it gives me the time to sit peacefully. I think, meditate or do an audio guided meditation. Since I have to wear the glasses when facing the light, I can’t see enough to read or be on my phone. I do read a book and wear my regular glasses when doing my back.

Check the research and see if red light therapy may be a good addition to your healthcare plan. If you’re local, give it a try at Shores Yoga Studio. I’m loving it! taken in Michigan, USA by @shoresyoga

Samasthiti: The Art of Embodied Cueing

📆 October 10th 12pm
📍Shores Yoga Studio
💸 $75

Learn to cue in a way that reaches the entire room, not just the student who needs the most correction.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to move beyond anatomical instructions, prescribed shapes, and the idea of a “right” or “wrong” way to align. Instead, we’ll use simple, inclusive, and inviting language that encourages students to feel their practice from the inside out.

You’ll learn how to create cues that guide students toward a felt sense of stability, strength, ease, connection, and presence, while allowing the body to naturally organize itself within the pose.

Together, we’ll explore how effective cueing can:

Reach and support everyone in the room
Encourage embodiment rather than striving for a particular shape or aesthetic
Create a more welcoming practice for all bodies and abilities
Replace rigid alignment rules with curiosity and exploration
Use simple language that students can immediately understand and feel
Encourage natural muscular engagement for strength and stability
Support transitions with cues that create continuity and awareness
Help students experience the qualities and state of yoga we are actually inviting them into

The goal isn’t to say more. It’s to cue with greater intention.

When we shift from telling students what their bodies should look like to inviting them to notice what they can feel, our teaching becomes more accessible, embodied, and connected to the deeper purpose of yoga. taken in Shores Yoga Studio by @shoresyoga

I took my 200hr in 2011 and a 300hr in 2018 and stepping out of both trainings cueing felt confusing. It wasn’t until I started using Samasthiti that cuing felt effortless and right.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE GET QUIET? 🤍

There’s something powerful about stepping away from the noise, the notifications, the expectations, and the constant doing.

The mind quiets, clarity has an opportunity to emerge and a profound sense a peace is felt.

We gathered a few reflections from people who have experienced silent retreats:

“I learned that I need quiet time, even if it’s just a little, to be centered and hear the voice inside of me.”

“I felt an ease and awareness that I’ve never had and a peaceful calm I’ve never experienced.”

“For the first time in my life, my mind felt completely clear. I had no thoughts, I felt completely present and a profound sense of peace.”

Silence doesn’t mean emptiness. It creates space to hear what has been there all along.

Space to breathe.
Space to notice.
Space to rest.
Space to reconnect with yourself.

Our Winter Stillness Retreat is an invitation to step away from the pace of everyday life and into intentional quiet.

✨ 1.5 days of intentional silence
🧘 Gentle morning + restorative evening yoga
🔔 Sound baths
🔥 Cozy fireside moments
🌲 Nature + stillness
🤍 Space to simply be

You don’t have to arrive knowing how to meditate, be “good” at silence, or have everything figured out.

Just come as you are.

What might you hear when everything else gets quiet?
