Amongst friends old and new, we welcome the work of OKs Spring 2026 resident, Sara Caron @shortcutttt who’s been a fixture throughout our kitchen’s ten year transformation. Sara’s the force behind a handful of branches that have extended from The Open. Her projects include Pond Room Press @pondroompresents Open Ware @openwareceramics Full Moon Karaoke, and the speak-easy, Nightcrawlers. Within the cracks of these public facing forms, you can find her works, in a nonchalant spirit we have an affinity with. Over the years, our ideas have commingled, in sometimes sporadic ways, or as we concur, “on occasion”. And on occasion, we let ideas motion … at a snail’s pace. On this day, we will give you a peek into a decades long collective metamorphosis (between friends).

This special evening, will also include a mixtape listening from the darkest corner of The Open building courtesy of another old friend @ngasparkle and his forthcoming project, the Boiler Room? Or Cheese Cellar?… Title TBD; 🍠 Special treat from HOT POTATO @samiz2much ; and a warm welcome, short piece-release, writing correspondence (on seasonality) with @mizukitakezaki .

On the menu —a soft-launch of Fountain Kitchenette… an OK experimental cafe: in cooperation with @oliviakeidl @samiz2much

It is a pleasure to share with you the results of the artistic residency that we took part in this summer in Milwaukee (WI).

At Openware Ceramics ( @openwareceramics ), studio curated by Sara Caron ( @shortcutttt ) as part of her artistic project Pond Room ( @pondroompresents ), we developed a research based over industrialisation and the fictitious remnants of this exploitative chain production process.

On 1/16 we lost my Little Oatie - he was somewhere between 8 and 13 years old, it all happened really fast. He was sick and weak but peaceful, I’m so grateful I got to be with him in life and at his death.

To Oatie, who really taught me to love across species, the power of the domestic and of being close, a friend to everyone who met him, dogs, people, children - always sneezy, always dirty, and confoundingly beautiful - no more time could ever have been enough - I love you little guy by @shortcutttt
