To say that I am a proud daughter of immigrants would be an understatement. 🇰🇳❤️

My parents both immigrated to this country from the beautiful, small island of St. Kitts. My mother arrived as a teenager, and my father as a young adult. They met in their 20s at an annual St. Kitts dinner dance in the Bronx. They fell in love, got married, started a family, and built a successful business together. Their decades-long partnership is one that I admire and have so much respect for.

Growing up, they instilled in my siblings and me a relentless work ethic and a strong belief in God. They always reminded us to give thanks for all that we receive, to help others, and to give back whenever we can—because they know firsthand what it means to struggle.

I am so incredibly grateful for how hard my parents worked to provide for our family. There are truly no words to describe how thankful I am for all the sacrifices they made so that I could be where I am today.

Everything I am building with Shorte and Sweet is a direct reflection of the foundation they laid for us. This is their legacy, too. Thank you mom and dad for everything. 🖤🖤

When we reach huge milestones, the absence of the people who rooted for us from the very beginning can feel so heavy.
As we get closer to opening the doors of Shorte and Sweet, I find myself wishing my Godmother Natalie and my grandma were still here to walk through them.

Natalie lived life to the absolute fullest. She loved to smile, loved to dance, and loved my carrot cake. She was the one who always told me I needed to sell my baking. I can almost hear her cheering me on today.

My Grandma was the truest definition of family. I cherish the memories of baking early in the morning just to bring her fresh treats in the early afternoon. She was always looking out for me, watching the clock during my visits to make sure I got home in time to get the kids off the bus. This is the same woman who, at 80 years old, would come babysit my triplets just so I could go to my college classes.

I wish more than anything that these two amazing women were here today to walk into Shorte and Sweet just to see how far their love and encouragement has brought me.

They might not be here physically, but their love is baked right into the foundation of this dream. This one is for you both.

I sent out a few invitations in the mail with very specific instructions: "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL THE CAMERA IS ROLLING!"

Keeping the storefront a secret was hard, but watching the people who supported me from day one find out in real-time? WORTH EVERY SECOND.

Thank you to my amazing family and friends for always hyping me up. Having your support as I step into this next chapter means the world to me.

I need to take a moment to thank the two people who are the true heart and soul of Shorte and Sweet: Christian and Mia. Building this business hasn't just been my journey; it's been a huge sacrifice for them, too.

Thank you both for giving up parts of your weekends to help me out. Thank you for the early mornings, the heavy lifting, the endless packing and unpacking of the car, and for sticking it out with me through events that lasted for hours.

Most importantly, thank you for your grace and for understanding when I couldn’t be in two places at once.

Christian—no matter how many times you were caught sleeping on the job 😴😂, you always made up for it 10-fold with all of the heavy lifting. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do without you next year when you're off to college!

Mia—my official bill collector, AKA Sallie Mae! I can always count on you to make sure business is handled.

When you were little, I tried to teach you what having your own business would be like. Your very first business venture was a "Fish and Chips" stand, where you sold Swedish Fish and potato chips. I hope that one day, should you choose to open your own business, I’ve laid a strong foundation for you both—and I hope you know that I will always be your biggest supporter.

You two are the true backbone of Shorte and Sweet, and I couldn't have made it this far without you. Thank you for your endless support and for helping me turn my dream into a reality. I love you both beyond measure.

This is what a dream coming full circle looks like. Swipe to see where the love really began.

My cousin Debi is the one who instilled a love for baking in me since I was just a little child. She is the foundation of my passion and the example of love I follow in my kitchen every day.

A few months ago, I got to share the most precious private moment with her. It’s hard to put into words how much it means to me that when she flew in, she was one of the very first people to walk into our storefront before we officially open.

Debi, sharing this with you, showing you that the little girl in the photo is now about to open her very own cupcake boutique... I have never been more proud. I am so incredibly grateful to you. Thank you for all the love, patience, prayers and encouragement you have poured into me and my baking. I am so thankful for your endless support. Thank you for believing in me when this was just a labor of love. I love you to the moon and back 🖤

While we’ve been busy getting the boutique ready, true preparation comes from a deeper place.

Preparing this space means so much more to us than just cleaning, getting the necessary equipment, and decorating.

It’s about creating an atmosphere of love, peace, and joy that we hope everyone will feel when they walk through our doors.

We were so grateful to have Pastor Kay, come and pray over our storefront and for Shorte and Sweet’s future. Having her bless this place means the world to us as we lay the foundation for Shorte and Sweet.

A time was HAD today at the Nyack Street Fair!

It might have rained for hours this morning, but as soon as that sun came out, so did everyone else! The vibes were absolutely unmatched today—between the amazing food, the fish fry, all the incredible local vendors, and the DJ having us all dancing in the street, it turned into the perfect Sunday.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and showed out! We are already looking forward to returning to Nyack on Sunday, October 11th. See you then!
