POSTS STORIES REELS

I thought I was closing a bakery today. What I felt instead was an entire community wrapping its arms around me.

For 24 years, Short N Sweet has been so much more than cakes and pastries to me.
It has been people.

The people who trusted me with their weddings, birthdays, graduations and celebrations. The customers who became friends. The employees who became family. The young people who grew up in this kitchen. The people who walked through our doors this week with flowers, leis, hugs, stories, tears—and so much love.

Today I tried to take it all in.
The sound of the kitchen.
The last panini.
The last pastries leaving the case.
The familiar faces coming through the door one more time.

The hugs that lasted a little longer than usual.
And then, eventually, the doors had to close.
There are no words big enough for what you have given me.

To Hilo, to Hawi, and to every person who has been part of Short N Sweet over these 24 years: thank you for letting me create for you. Thank you for letting me feed you. Thank you for letting me be part of your lives.

What an extraordinary gift this has been.
This chapter is finished.

I don’t quite know what the next one looks like yet.
But I know I will carry all of this with me.

With all my love and gratitude,
Maria

Twenty-four years of cakes, celebrations, stories—and so many beautiful memories. ❤️

If Short N Sweet made a cake for one of your special moments, please share a photo in the comments. I would truly love to see them again.

Thank you for letting my creations become part of your lives. It has been the greatest gift.

I’ve been keeping a little secret. 👀

New kitchen, familiar tools, and a smile that’s making it very hard to be mysterious.

Let’s see who can figure this out:
🌺 Two restaurants, one island.
🌊 A little Hilo, a little oceanfront.
🍰 My part comes at the end of the meal.

Can you guess where I’m hanging my chef coat—and what I’m up to? Leave your guesses below. Bonus points if you name both places!

Available while they last.
No customizations.
First paid, first claimed.

If you've been thinking about having one more Short N Sweet cake on your table, this is it.

We’re open. 🤍

After Lala, today feels a little more meaningful.

So grateful for this community, for 24 years of your celebrations, and for every single day we still get to open these doors and bake for you.

Thank you, Hilo. Truly.

POV: you’re hungry in Hilo and every choice looks like the right one.

Loaded avocado toast, hot breakfast sandwiches, toasted panini, smoked salmon bagels, and savory breakfast bowls—made fresh and ready when you are.
Come sit down and enjoy breakfast with us, grab something on your way through town, or order online for an easy pickup.

Which one are you choosing first?
Tap the link in our bio to order online, or stop by Short N Sweet Hilo today.

Apparently, even on my day off, I still need to make something.

So today it’s watercolor instead of buttercream.
No deadline, no customer waiting, and no pressure for it to turn into anything especially impressive. Just paint, pastries, and a little time to let my brain be quiet.

I’m very grateful that so much of my life has been spent creating things for other people. But every now and then, it feels good to make something that doesn’t need to be perfect—or even particularly good. It only has to make me happy.

This is my version of recharging. I’m not very good at doing absolutely nothing, apparently.
What helps you feel like yourself again?
