Endemic to the misty Shola forests, the Black-and-Orange Flycatcher stays hidden in dense undergrowth — which makes moments like this feel almost magical.

In the dim light of the Nilgiri shola, a quiet stir of orange and blue steps into view.
The Indian Blue Robin rarely reveals itself this close—preferring the deep, shadowed undergrowth where only the forest truly listens.
Here in these moss-draped slopes, moments like this are not sightings… they are encounters.”

Once a long-distance migrant, the Indian Blue Robin journeys thousands of kilometres from the Himalayas to winter in the Western Ghats.
It spends its days low to the forest floor, flicking its tail as it forages for insects hidden beneath the leaf litter.
Its presence is a sign of a healthy, undisturbed shola—an ecosystem found almost nowhere else on Earth.”

🌳 வசிப்பிடம் (Habitat): இவை பெரும்பாலும் மேற்குத் தொடர்ச்சி மலைகளின் (Western Ghats) பசுமைமாறா காடுகள் மற்றும் அடர்ந்த மர உச்சிகளிலேயே (Canopy dwellers) வாழும். தரையில் இறங்குவது மிகவும் குறைவு.
🐛 உணவுப் பழக்கம் (Diet): இவை முழுமையான பூச்சியுண்ணிகள். இலைகளுக்கு அடியில் ஒளிந்திருக்கும் கம்பளிப்பூச்சிகள், சிலந்திகள் மற்றும் அந்தரத்தில் பறக்கும் சிறு பூச்சிகளை லாவகமாகப் பிடித்துச் சாப்பிடுவதில் இவை கில்லாடிகள். பெரும்பாலும் சிறு கூட்டமாகவே மரத்துக்கு மரம் தாவி உணவு தேடும்.
