Wildflower of the Sierra Nevada

I'm on a bit of a wildflower kick with spring in the air, and I can't help but look forward to bloom season up in the mountains this summer. Cool air, no crowds, pristine creeks and flora, and an unbeatable backdrop of the Sierra's magnificent granite peaks. Those of you familiar with the area know that these alpine meadows are few and far between in the high elevations, making them extra special when you encounter one such as this.

I can't wait to get back up here! I love coastal shooting, deserts, and winter scenes, but the high alpine is really what drew me to photography in the first place. taken in Sierra Nevada by @shotsbyliam_

First light at this classic Yosemite viewpoint

I've been wanting to catch this specific view with fresh snow for years, and it finally materialized last month! I wasn't stoked on the crowds as it kinda ruined the magic a bit (see the last slide) but that's how it goes after a rare snowfall such as this 😉 taken in Yosemite National Park by @shotsbyliam_

Encapsulated by the magic & stillness of Utah's badlands.

This is one of the few places where there is truly beauty at every angle, as opposed to there being only one famous perspective that dominates the view. I've recently tended to enjoy this type of scenery better. While I still love visiting a location with a classic viewpoint to recreate famous photographs I've seen, I think I get a bit more out of showing up somewhere with very little prior knowledge and seeing what I can find on the spot. It feels a little more like a proper art form this way, rather than just following in the footsteps of others. taken in Utah by @shotsbyliam_

An afternoon in Capitol Reef

Even with a quick visit I know how incredibly full this place is with beauty and hidden gems. Despite being one of Utah's least visited National Parks I felt it was one of the most beautiful I've been to, and I know I only scratched the surface of what it has to offer. Next time I hope to get out in the backcountry and explore deeper into what this place has to offer! taken in Capitol Reef National Park by @shotsbyliam_

Golden mornings at the Factory

Part 2 of the drone photos from this incredible morning. Featuring a 2x1 and 3x1 panorama (shout-out to @kevinnyunphoto for showing me the built in pano function on my drone!)

I loved how this place looked in the soft light dusk with the cooler magenta hues, but I think personally I prefer the slightly stronger warm light after the sun came up. What do you think? taken in Utah by @shotsbyliam_

Aerials of Utah's badlands, from an area off the beaten path aptly named for its subtle rock color. Believe it or not, these were shot at midday--the dark clouds overhead kept these hills in the shade while we were shooting, giving it a soft look resembling blue hour. I do love strong light but for this type of landscape, I think the softer light worked well. I think full direct sunlight would have washed out any possible color depth that these ridges and valleys have!
