POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

⭐️SIDESTAGEWITHSOPH⭐️

It makes me ecstatic to announce a new video series that I’ve been working on for months.

I of course love a podcast listening to industry people’s funny onstage bloopers and favourite roles however a lot more happens behind the curtain to get a show to what we see.

Alongside the crew, production team, marketing it starts with the performer. I’ll be talking about what inspired these stars to start theatre as a career. I’ll be asking them pre show routines, things that have inspired them and how they prep for curtain up with bits and bobs of fun throughout.

So if you’re like me and you love the behind the scenes and like to hear stories behind the stories then keep an eye as the first episode will drop this week. I’ll be sharing clips on here and the full episodes will be on YouTube!!

Stay tuned for a guest announcement but for now just share the excitement of this fun new adventure 🥹🥹

Got a pretty big year ahead if I achieve all this. I am so looking forward to the touring calendar, I may set up camp near the Bord Gais Theatre at this rate though lol.

I also can’t wait to watch some of my favourites again and hopefully some new shows. 2026 is looking to be a great year in theatre already. I always look forward to those shows that pop up and I fall in love with randomly so excited for those too!!

What productions are you looking forward to in 2026?

Hello everyone my community has just about doubled since the last time I did one of these (!!!) so I decided it was time for an updated introduction to me: Sophie from Showswithsoph

I am an Irish based theatregoer who is passionate about solo theatre trips and celebrating covers, making sure every single person on and offstage gets recognised for their work in creating a show.

My first show was Flashdance which I saw on tour on a school trip when I was 16 and honestly felt like I had had an awakening.

I see a mix of touring and London productions with a bit of Fringe theatre sprinkled here and there.

I adore connecting with likeminded people through this account and have had some really lovely conversations!

I can’t wait for this community to continue to grow and keep those discussions going.

If you enjoy bigging up the ensemble, cheering for swings and shouting out representation in theatre then stick around because I am your kinda gal, as Harold Zidler would say everyone is welcome here.

I was overdue a visit to the @vamuseum and my how much has the theatre exhibit grown.

They have everything you could think of, from set models to a lighting desk, you can even listen in to a DSM call the show.

They also have a massive array of costumes from shows including Wicked, The Lion King and more! You can also spot old posters, watch archival footage and see BTS of everyone behind the curtain.

I’m so glad I made the return trip to the V&A and would highly recommend this for a pre-show theatre themed activity!

Pop other suggestions for a pre theatre activity down below. ⬇️

A few cute moments captured in Cumbria. A v special show indeed with the best group of people. If it wasn’t clear already I love @kilkennymusical . This is your sign to join your local musical society if you’ve been thinking about it.

Another crew credit for my cv added too, was a challenge in places but so grateful for another opportunity

Last night I attended the second date of @carriehopefletcher Ghostlight tour and what an evening it was.

From the announcement I know it’d be a special one given the setting of the cathedral but my word it was all the synonyms of special. The acoustics of Coventry Cathedral were outstanding and created the most warm and cozy atmosphere.

Carrie was hitting notes and the echoes that would follow at the end of a song would give me goosebumps. Not to mention some of the songs in the set list would tug on the heartstrings.

My highlight of the night though is without a doubt Carrie’s storytelling. You could tell purely by the way she told us the stories how much care and thought has gone into preparing for this tour and just how much loves telling these tales.

Anyone who is yet to see this tour is in for such a treat and I’m so glad I got to experience it myself and the meet and greet beforehand was a cherry on top!

Thank you Carrie for a very very special evening and you never know maybe we will see your ghost on the barricades and hear your legend in years to come.

In this we hear Bernadette touch on her recent takeover over the role of Becky in Waitress, a dream role of hers, as she gets ready post warm up.

Part of the reason I started Sidestagewithsoph was because I love to hear about Behind the Scenes action so getting to chat while Bernadette got ready was super fun!

Something that jumped out at me when going through Bernadette’s CV was Once on this Island at Regents Park. I wanted to ask how to train your voice when there isn’t four walls for it to bounce off. I’m really interested in knowing how different venues and environments treat sound and the projection of their voices.

Watch this clip to hear how they did it

She’s got down with the dynamites, dodged men in the desert and now serves pie at the diner. Bernadette Bangura is my next guest on SIdestagewithsoph filmed in two episodes before and after warm up as Bernadette prepped for Becky.

In these episodes we talked about performing outside at Regents Park, working with the elements and bracing your voice to perform in different conditions.

We also touched on touring and what Bernadette classes touring essentials including those home comforts that give you a home away from home. Alongside that how different audiences react to different lines depending on the location.

With the touring chat we expressed how important it was for different messages to spread to corners of the UK and Ireland to which Bernadette recalled the message of Hairspray being the most implortant she’s been part of followed by Priscilla.

In the second episode we finished talking about touring and moved over to Bernadette’s most recent exciting chapter, joining the cast of Waitress as Becky. She had a unique experience being the only one in rehearsal room and having a quick tech period. On top of that, creating her take on the role and now getting in the swing of things.

These episodes were super fun to make as you all know how much I love behind the scenes, hence why I started Sidestagewithsoph so being with Bernadette before and after warm up and as she got ready was brilliant!!

First ep drops Thursday!!
