Guṇā guṇeṣu vartante” (गुणा गुणेषु वर्तन्ते) is one of the most profound statements in Bhagavad Gita. It completely changes how we understand our thoughts, emotions, and actions.

Let’s unpack it.

Literal Meaning

* Guṇāḥ = the three guṇas of Prakriti: Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas.
* Guṇeṣu = among the guṇas, or in the objects and world that are also made of these guṇas.
* Vartante = are functioning, interacting, operating.

So Krishna says:

“The guṇas are interacting with the guṇas.”

Not you.

⸻

What does that actually mean?

Everything in creation, including your body and mind, is made of the three guṇas.

* Your eyes are made of Prakriti.
* The beautiful sunset is also Prakriti.
* Your brain chemistry is Prakriti.
* The delicious smell of food is Prakriti. by @shradhasaha
