Post No.: 39 – The Porsche 911 (901)

The Inception — where it all started. The idea of a successor to the Porsche 356 went on to become one of the most iconic cars in automotive history. Its evolution continues even after six decades, as Porsche carries on its journey towards perfection.

Unveiled in 1963 as the successor to the 356, Porsche named it the 901. But after Peugeot objected to the name, claiming rights over three-digit model numbers with a zero in the middle, Porsche decided to call it the 911.

The 911 became synonymous with performance and the connection between man and machine. It delivers the kind of performance that puts a big smile on the driver’s face, while remaining timeless through the decades and retaining a legacy that can be passed from one generation to the next.

From 1963 till today, Porsche has relentlessly pursued more speed and better performance. Yet, the iconic silhouette of the 911 remains recognisable, retaining its 2+2 seating layout and rear-engine configuration for over six decades, while continuing to be celebrated by purists around the world.

This time, I was at my hometown and had run out of pictures for Monday’s post. Luckily, I had carried this beautiful 1/64 scale model by @almostrealmodel_official and clicked some pictures on the terrace. With a few corrections, the results have turned out so well, doing justice to this beauty.

Almost Real have absolutely nailed the details — from the chrome bumpers, fog lamps and horn grilles to the chrome hubcaps, door handles and engine cover. I could go on and on about the details that have been replicated so well!

The moment I picked up this model at the @beantownmcc trade meet last Sunday, I realised it was something I would cherish forever.

With this post, the Porsche series has crossed 12 posts, and the Model Monday tradition has continued uninterrupted for 39 weeks! 🏁

Post No.: 38 – Porsche 911 Dakar

911s are everyday supercars, but Porsche made something under the spirit of its Sonderwunsch philosophy which is an everywhere sports car. Pack your bags like a Hitchhiker, throw in some tools and fuel up the 911 Dakar — now you are ready to cross continents and countries, even through terrains that would be unfriendly to normal low-slung sports cars.

Made to commemorate Porsche’s Dakar rally legacy, this 911 Dakar is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine with 480 PS at its disposal, which can launch it to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, with a limited top speed of 240 km/h. And that means you can take this thing across sand, gravel, dunes and rough terrain and still have a proper Porsche sports car underneath you.

This iconic Porsche retains the colours and design cues from the 1984 Paris-Dakar winning 911, with Porsche replacing the famous “Rothmans” branding with “Roughroads” — you know why. 😬

This model is made by @minigt in 1/64 scale, replicating the details to perfection. The last pic is imagined through AI, just to show how capable this engineering marvel can be.

And now it’s 38 continuous weeks of Model Monday posts. I would like to thank the diecast hobbyists fraternity for the support and I am sure to take this streak to an unbroken 52 .

Should I do a couple of more Porsches post in this series or shift to another brand, let me know in the comments. Until then peace ✌🏾 ☮️ and happy collecting.

Porsche 911 GT1 - As closer to the LeMans performance for the road

When GT3 becomes GT2 and eventually GT1, the 911 story gets progressively more extreme. GT3 represents Porsche’s track-focused philosophy in a road-legal package; GT2 takes that formula and turns the aggression up with turbocharging, rear-wheel drive and brutal performance. But GT1 is where the 911 DNA crosses into something almost unhinged. The name comes from the FIA GT1 racing class, and Porsche’s 911 GT1 was essentially a racing prototype adapted for the road, with a mid-mounted engine and a level of aerodynamic and engineering focus that made it feel closer to a Le Mans machine than a conventional 911. GT3 is focused, GT2 is ferocious, but GT1 is visceral, extreme and borderline crazy — a 911 pushed so far towards motorsport that the road car almost feels like the compromise. 🏁🔥

This model is made by @sparkgermany and after a lot of looking out got this recently at a right time in between the Porsche Series of the Model Monday posts and the level of replication of this casting is spot on.

This @porsche series among the Model Monday series is going well with 12 posts so far and 37 posts in total without a break. Thank you everyone from the diecast community for the support.

Next week stay tuned for a Porsche made to tribute to the brand’s legacy at @dakarrally

Post no.36 - The Porsche Carrera GT

What happens when you put a 5.7L V10 engine producing 610 PS in the rear of a car and mate it to a 6-speed manual gearbox, but give the driver very little electronic intervention? Does it sound scary? Yes, it is!

Porsche’s chief development driver Walter Röhrl famously said that the Carrera GT was in no way messed up by electronics and that the driver needed a certain “moral maturity” behind the wheel.

There is no traction control or stability control stepping in to correct a mistake. If you get it wrong, there isn’t much between you and the consequences. The Carrera GT can bite hard, because this engineering masterpiece from Stuttgart is every bit the beast it looks like.

And if you are a true petrolhead, there is absolutely no way the sound of that V10 can go unappreciated. That naturally aspirated 5.7-litre masterpiece is one of the reasons the Carrera GT is regarded as one of the great-sounding cars of its era.

Sadly, they don’t make cars quite like these anymore. Modern performance cars have become incredibly capable, but very few leave this much of the responsibility in the driver’s hands. So spare a moment to appreciate this car. Because the Carrera GT isn’t just about how fast it is; it’s about how involved you have to be.

This model is made by @timemicromodel in 1/64 scale, and it is, without a doubt, one of the best replications of the Carrera GT I’ve seen. The wheels, centre-lock nuts, engine bay, bucket seats, dashboard and even the exhausts are replicated with incredible attention to detail. Not a speck of detail seems to have been overlooked.

And that V10? Well… that’s a story in itself. 🏁

All about today !! After a long long time took “Aegan” out to be a part of the @royalenfield One Ride 2026. This was my first One Ride and it was a great experience. The way the event was organised and at such a massive scale across the world only RE can pull it off year on year, it’s been part of the Royal Enfield’s culture and bedrock of the community that was built. For a lazy bum like I, early morning ride to Vidhan Soudha and the venue despite a heavy thunderstorm is an achievement already.

And as an icing on the cake, I got to test ride the “Flying Flea” @flyingflea C6, boy oh boy! what a product 😍
Many might make fun or not accept this attempt of @royalenfield, but when you know the history behind the FF during the World War times, it was dropped from the planes for the soldiers to move around the battlefield. As an analogy RE has dropped this product into the evolving world of EVs with a lot of conviction and the continuous efforts to make FF reach people is just mind-blowing to see.

So finally a Sunday well spent away from the couch and bed.

@_manirajv missed you da, your company could have made it even better.

“The Porsche that was way ahead of its times”

4 decades earlier this Porsche was something that became a blueprint for the technological revolution for the 911s.

This is the car that competed with the Ferrari F40 for the fastest production car crown.

This is the car that held the fastest production car record, even if only for a brief period.

This is the car that @porsche literally cooked to make it look like a car from the future.

This is the car into which Porsche engineers poured everything in their arsenal, with the ambition of dominating Group B Rally.

This is the car that was a true “Game Changer”.

And this is the car that helped save the 911.

This is the Porsche 959. 🏁

Twin sequential turbochargers, 450 PS, 0-100 in 3.7 secs, all-wheel drive, top speed of almost 320 kmph, hydraulically adjusted self levelling suspension, magnesium wheels and light Kevlar bodywork all of this wizardry helped Porsche to win the gruelling Paris Dakar rally. The numbers and performance figures could put a lot of Sportscars of today to shame even after bloody 4 decades. If that doesn’t blow your mind, then I don’t know what else would.

Made in 1/64 scale by @tarmac.works in collaboration with @ixo_modelcars is just amazing replication. Calling it “Perfect” would be an understatement in my opinion. The wheels, the bumpers, air intakes, the paint job, the headlights etc are so well made and put together.

And now I have maintained a 35 week streak of this Model Monday series which I never thought it would come this long. Thank you for the support and encouragement which motivates to do even better.

Stay tuned for another V10 legend from Porsche’s stable next week.

Post no.: 34 – Porsche 911 992 GT3 Touring

In the current model lineup of Porsche, there is a 911 for almost everyone. And this, in particular, is a unique and niche offering. In my previous posts, I mentioned that the GT3 sits right between the base and the pinnacle of the 911 lineup. You might wonder, “This is just a GT3 without the rear wing.” Of course, yes! And that’s the actual point. It’s quite subtle and doesn’t scream, yet it makes a statement. This GT3 Touring is a step above the Carrera 4S and, if you are someone in Europe, for example, just take this on the roads of the Dolomites and feel alive with the NA engine that revs up to 9,000 rpm, with a manual gearbox or even a PDK.

This model is made by @minigtofficial and boy oh boy, they have just beautifully replicated this! The Graphite Grey Metallic paint job, the alloy wheels that are accurately reproduced, the clock on the dashboard, the interiors and the exhaust make a petrolhead feel alive (at least a little bit similar to the driving experience of this GT3) while holding this casting.

Stay tuned next Monday for a masterpiece from Porsche, which was way ahead of its times.

Post no.: 33 - Porsche 911 992 GT3

Just to see how the Porsche’s 911 line up has evolved over the years, initially there was only a 911 that was offered and later it paved way to the demand for Rennsport (RS) models, then the Turbos came into the lineup, then the GT3s, the GT2s and even the crazier GT3 RS became part of the product line up which Porsche has been expanding based on the needs and demands from customers and purists along with the Carreras and Targas, which were always there.

Now as I mentioned in my previous post the GT3s perfectly sits exactly between the Carreras and the RSs and the Turbos now. Like almost every Porsche 911 right now, the GT3 can be driven to the office from Mon to Fri and later have track days on the weekends. It would give everything that you could ask from it, a leisure breakfast drive on a Sunday morning, quick short runs on a Saturday night and even a Sunday track day without breaking a sweat and yet clock more than 1 lakh km on the odometer coz all the 911s are keepers.

On almost every post of mine I mention the tech specs and performance figures but sometimes the purpose for each model is built and offers gets overlooked imo. So whenever you spot a GT3, it means the owner is a person of great taste.

This model is made by @minichamps in a unique Shark Blue shade which is an exclusive paint offered by Porsche. The hood, the swan neck spoiler, the wheels and the brake rotors are superbly replicated doing justice to this legend.

Stay tuned for the next post which a unique iteration of the GT3

Had the pleasure of meeting @rohit_paradkar , thanks to our shared love for cars and the scale-model hobby. What started with a Mini GT Porsche that he was looking for eventually turned into a wonderful conversation about cars, collecting and everything that makes this hobby special. It was a short meeting to handover the model but I came back with something far more valuable — a great memory and a new connection forged through a shared passion.

Cars may be our common language, but the hobby makes the world feel a little smaller. 🖤🏁 taken in Taj Yeshwantpur Bengaluru by @shrid11

Post no. 32 - Porsche 911 996 GT3

“Designed to excel on road and track”

Every variant of the Porsche 911 is built for a different purpose, and that difference makes them unique.

The Carreras are meant to let customers experience what it is like to drive a Porsche every day, and how that ownership journey helps them evolve over the years, becoming more skilled drivers before upgrading further to faster 911s.

The Targas give their owners the open-air sports car driving experience that everyone can cherish.

Then come the GT3s. The GT3 offers an elevated driving experience to its owners, which is as close as driving a stripped-down race car for the road. It’s not about delivering insane performance and speeds, but about offering an exceptional and exhilarating experience behind the wheel. Whether on a regular road or a race track, the GT3 offers that connection between the driver and the car that the 911s are known for. And that’s exactly where they sit between the Carreras and their faster siblings like the GT2s, GT3 RSs and the flagship Turbos. That was the idea behind bringing the GT3 into the model lineup and its product positioning.

The model shown here is the 996 GT3 - “the first GT3” and a Gamechanger, as Porsche calls it. Built as a road-legal homologation version for its motorsport division, it had a 3.6-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine producing 355 PS, enough to launch this missile to a top speed of 302 kmph. This 1/64 scale model is made by @tarmac.works in collaboration with @ixo_modelcars as part of their Collab 64 series. The 10-spoke alloy wheels, the iconic headlights, the twin exhausts and the fixed rear wing, which was a hallmark of the GT3, are very well replicated to perfection.

I am sure this Porsche series is becoming interesting to all the petrolheads and scale model hobbyists out there!

P.S the last picture was imagined with AI to complement the driving experience the GT3 is known for.

Post No: 31 - Porsche 992.1 911 Turbo S

“The everyday supercar.” That, for me, is what the 911 Turbo S has always been about. A 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six producing 650 PS and 800 Nm, launching this missile from 0-100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds (that’s faster than the Ferrari 296 GTB, ahem! that is coming from a Ferrari Fan ❤️) and taking it all the way to 330 km/h.

But the numbers are only half the story. The Turbo S combines brutal performance with the ability to be driven every day, across long distances and even on a racetrack. Porsche calls it “the dream of a Porsche 911, pushed to the absolute limit” — and honestly, that sums it up perfectly.

This is the last non-hybrid Turbo S, which doesn’t have the electric motors to spool up the Turbos. So it’s a one of its kind Turbo S.

This 1/64 model by @minigtofficial captures that understated aggression beautifully. It may look elegant, but behind that familiar 911 silhouette is a machine built to humble many modern supercars that wear the “supercar” badge which is an analogy to the famous quote “not all superheroes wear a cape”
A Turbo S doesn’t need to shout. It just needs to launch. 🔥

I have hardly been consistent lately with any of the hobbies but able to maintain a continuous streak of 31 posts.

Stay tuned for more 🙌 and keep supporting!
