What does the clinical experience look like in Pitt's Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) program? 🩺

Beginning as early as their first week, Pitt DC students are immersed in the clinical experience, gaining hands-on experience in private practice chiropractic clinics and hospital environments, which contribute to building strong foundational skills in diverse health care environments.

“The clinical experience portion of the Pitt DC program is something that really drove me when I was first applying. In our first semester, we had experiences in an ambulance ride-along setting, we had experiences in a medical primary care setting in addition to an emergency department. Advancing the future of hearing health starts with research. 👂

Researchers in Pitt’s Department of Communication Science and Disorders (CSD) are working to transform hearing health care through precision medicine, tackling the challenges of “hidden hearing loss” that affect millions of people, even those with normal hearing test results.

“Typically, the components of the ear and brain work together to allow a person to hear. But when there are changes in the ear or brain, or changes in what the ear conveys to the brain, it can be difficult to diagnose exactly where the hearing loss occurs.” - Aravind Parthasarathy, assistant professor of communication science and disorders.

By advancing research into how the brain processes sound, they’re helping pave the way for more personalized diagnoses and treatments that could improve communication and quality of life for countless individuals.

Another week of hands-on learning, collaboration and growth in The Box! 💪📚

Our second-year hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students returned to campus for their July immersion, where they practiced clinical techniques, refined their hands-on skills and learned alongside faculty and peers.

These immersive experiences are a key part of Pitt’s hybrid DPT program, giving students the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom while building confidence for clinical practice.

🌟 Faculty Spotlight: Kelli Lampe, assistant professor and clinical coordinator for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.

With 20 years of counseling experience across schools, community mental health agencies, substance use disorder treatment centers, the juvenile justice system, higher education institutions and private practice, Lampe brings her clinical expertise to the classroom to enrich the student experience.

At Pitt SHRS, preparing future counselors starts with meaningful clinical experiences! 🤝

From hospitals and schools to community organizations like UpStreet, our Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MS) students are gaining the hands-on experience needed to become compassionate, skilled counselors.

This year, counseling student Asha Edson (MS ‘26) helped establish a new practicum and internship opportunity with UpStreet, expanding opportunities for future students while supporting teens and young adults in the Pittsburgh community.
