Chin shadowing is one of those lower-face concerns that people notice on themselves, but don’t always know what’s actually creating it.

When I assess this area, I’m looking at much more than the chin alone. I’m looking at chin projection, the shape either side of the chin, how the jawline meets the chin and the overall proportions of the lower face.

Depending on what I see, chin filler may be used to add projection and improve the shape of the chin. In some cases, carefully placed filler around the chin can also help create a smoother transition into the jawline and reduce the appearance of shadowing.

But I wouldn’t automatically reach for filler every time.

If there’s a lot of movement or dimpling through the chin, I may also consider whether anti-wrinkle treatment to the mentalis muscle could be appropriate. If the concern is more about the width or shape of the lower face, we might discuss the masseters. And sometimes I’ll look further up the face too, because the cheeks, lips, chin and jaw all affect how balanced the lower face appears.

This is exactly why two people can point to the same concern and leave with completely different treatment plans.

If you’ve noticed chin shadowing, dimpling or a lack of definition through your lower face, book a consultation via the link in bio and I can assess what’s actually creating it before recommending a treatment 🤎

A more defined jawline doesn’t always mean adding filler to the jaw.

Sometimes the biggest difference comes from looking at the areas around it. More projection through the chin or support through the cheeks can change how the entire lower face looks, without touching the jawline at all.

Two clients, two completely different facial balancing plans.

This is exactly why the amount of filler doesn’t tell you how subtle a result will be. It’s where it’s placed, what your features need and how those areas work together that matters.

Cheek filler has had a bad reputation for YEARS and I do get why 😭

When people hear cheek filler, they often picture really high, obvious cheekbones and loads of added volume. But that’s only one way of treating the area.

Used in the right place, cheek filler can add subtle structure, replace lost volume and bring more balance to the face without giving you ‘bigger cheeks’.

And a little birthday month reminder 🎂 I’ve still got 20% off treatments throughout September, so if you’ve been thinking about booking in, now’s a good time to do it x by @shsthetics

Dissolving filler can be the right decision, but there’s a lot more to consider than simply wanting to “start again”.

Before I recommend dissolving, I want to know what you actually dislike about your current result.

Is it the shape? The amount of volume? Has the filler migrated? Are you unhappy with previous placement? Or have your preferences simply changed since you first started having filler?

Because those answers matter.

In some cases, dissolving gives us a better foundation to work from before creating a new treatment plan. In others, dissolving everything may not be necessary at all.

Dissolving should be a considered part of your treatment plan, rather than something you feel you need to rush into because you’ve fallen out of love with your filler.

If you’re unsure what the next step should be with existing filler, send me a message 🤎 by @shsthetics
