OCTOBER EVENTS 🗓️

October 6: Workshop with @shsuasc in LSC 323 from 1-2pm

October 8: Our new biweekly ambassador-led Snack & Chat in the First-Gen Center from 12-2pm

October 14: Bearkat Bites & Connections with @gps_shsu and @shsu_ugresearch in the FGC from 1-2pm

October 20: Transfer Student Scavenger Hunt from 9am-4pm. It is across campus, but will begin in the FGC, and it’s open to all students (as part of National Transfer Student Week)

October 21: Transfer Student Speed Friending in LSC 320 from 3-5pm (as part of National Transfer Student Week)

October 22: Snack & Chat in the FGC from 12-2pm

October 26: Halloween-themed Monday Funday in the FGC from 10am-3pm

October 29: @shsucaicab’s Halloween Takeover across the LSC from 7-10pm (The First-Gen Center will be in LSC 117)

MEET THE FACES BEHIND THE FIRST-GEN CENTER! 🧡

The First-Generation Student Ambassadors are the heart of the First-Gen Center. They’re the people you’ll see at events, greet you at the desk, answer your questions and help make Sam Houston State feel like home.

Whether you see us in the center or around campus, don’t be afraid to say hi! We’re always happy to see you 🐾

MEET CALVIN!

He is a junior who has been with the center for over a year and a half, and his favorite part about working here is the hospitality and the staff.

MEET MADDI!

She is a senior who has been with the center for a year, and her favorite part about working here is getting to plan & execute super fun events. She also manages the Instagram and helps market our events across campus!

MEET ADRIAN!

He is a sophomore who has been with the center for over a year, and his favorite part about working here is meeting new people, working as a team, and collaborating with the First-Gen Student Org, which is he also Vice President for!

MEET SHELBI!

She is a senior who has been with the center for over nine months, and her favorite part about working here is seeing students thrive and get value out of our space, especially during events.

MEET JACKY!

She is a senior who has been with the center for over four months, and her favorite part about working here is getting to attend the events we host.

MEET EBONY!

She is a sophomore who has been with the center for a little over a month, and her favorite part about working here is getting to meet new people and attend events.

MEET MASON!

He is a junior who has been with the center for a little over a month, and his favorite part about working here is getting to meet different people everyday.

MEET THERESA!

She is a junior who just started working at the center, and her favorite part about working here is connecting with first-gen students. She is also the president of the First-Generation Student Organization (@firstgenshsu)! by @shsu_firstgen

STOP BY THE FIRST-GEN CENTER! 📚 Open all day, every day, we are here to serve our students. All you need is your SAM ID to pick up scantrons, snacks, a cup of coffee, rent out a laptop, play board games, watch movies and more in our center.
Have questions about anything on campus? Our first-gen ambassadors & mentors can answer it! From finding buildings across campus, to help registering for classes, we are a one-stop shop for all of your SHSU questions! 🎉📋✨ by @shsu_firstgen

NEXT WEEK IS NATIONAL TRANSFER STUDENT WEEK! To celebrate, we are hosting a cross-campus scavenger hunt* ✨🧭

To participate, stop by LSC 317 (the First-Gen Center) starting at 9am to grab the materials. You’ll receive pictures of locations across campus, and you will have to fill in the location of every picture. The first student to turn in a correct paper wins a $100 scholarship, and everyone else who turns it in by 4pm is entered into winning first-gen swag and meal vouchers for the Chick-Fil-A on campus! Good luck hunting! 🧡🗺️

Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A session and have their questions answered directly by First-Generation Center staff.

Whether you're a parent, family member, supporter, or student, we invite you to join the conversation and learn more about the First-Generation Center and the many resources available to support your Bearkat's success.
