In Sept of last year, as our hearts were healing from Bentley’s passing, I decided to take on a new challenge as a puppy raiser for the NEADS organization. The plan was to have Ginger from 12 weeks old until she was about 1, at which point she would move on to phase 2 of her training to become a seeing eye, hearing aid or therapy service animal.

We went on so many adventures.
To baseball games, playgrounds and ice cream shops to get used to kids and all types of people.

Rides on the T, arcades and walks in the city to get used to bustling sights and sounds.

To office buildings, doctor’s offices, libraries, pet stores, and restaurants to practice her patience and listening.

As a result, Ginger is the most patient, sweet, calm pup. As she approached her 1st birthday, I started to come to terms with how hard it would be to not see her every day.

Last week, Ginger was released from her training program because her trainers don’t think she’s the right fit to live a life of service. When the option to adopt Ginger presented itself, we didn’t hesitate. Proud of all she’s achieved, but she’s family now 💜 and forever.

We made it through day one…and we’re both pooped. 275 to go! 🤞🏼my first attempt isn’t a puppy school drop out and goes on to better someone’s life as a NEADs certified service animal 💜🐾 Looking forward to being a part of her journey.
