A brief history of me being talked out of beautiful things.

Translation of the last slide- Thousands of desires, each one intense enough to take my breath away.
So many of my longings were fulfilled, and still they felt too few.

Our #SBCBookDiscussion with @shunalikhullarshroff1 on The Wrong Way Home is now live on YouTube! ✨

It was a truly engaging and heartfelt conversation where we explored the making of the book, its emotional core and the many layers behind the story, while also answering some really thoughtful audience questions.

This one, from @graphicswithshirin sparked a beautiful reflection on the very first thought that led to the writing of the book! ✍🏻

Recently, while clearing out a bookshelf, I stumbled upon an old print copy of HT Brunch. It contained a conversation I’d had with Elizabeth Gilbert whose memoir Eat, Pray, Love became a global phenomenon.

Reading it again took me back to a soft winter morning spent with her on the lawns of Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, just before the world shut down in 2020. We shared dosas, breakfast and a conversation that wandered across writing, grief, ageing, love and the complicated business of being human.

I met her again later in Delhi for this HT Brunch cover shoot organised by my friend @jamalshaikh .

Revisiting the interview, I was struck by how much of it still resonated.
Wise, warm, quick to laugh and deeply present, Gilbert was exactly as thoughtful and engaging in person as she is on the page.
What she said in particular, about becoming an empty nester seemed like the universe speaking to me, perhaps because I am only a few months away from that chapter now.

I thought I’d share a few excerpts from a conversation here.

I used to love Bombay, but that city now mostly exists in memory.

The 90s. An era of mythical nightlife, louche parties, intoxicating conversations, Page 3 flashbulbs and the underworld operating quietly in the background.

Bombay was chaotic, glamorous, smoky, occasionally dangerous and wildly alive.

This Bombay feels almost unrecognisable to me now. Yes, it’s richer. Glossier. There are more cafés and restaurants than we could have fathomed back then.

But something vital has gone missing. Raise your hands if you agree. by @shunalikhullarshroff1

Whenever I tell someone I have ADHD, I’m often met with, “Don’t we all?”

I know what they mean. There’s enough competing for our attention to make finishing a thought an achievement. But I recognise these struggles from a childhood that had neither smartphones nor twenty open tabs.

Distraction was only part of it. So many everyday things took more effort than I could explain, even to myself. Finding out why helped me understand years of wondering why I couldn’t just get my act together.
I like myself so much more now.

ADHD brains are just built differently and they come with their own strengths too.

Other people sharing their experiences helped me, so I’m sharing mine.

Judging the WeddingSutra Influencer Awards, meeting the original supermodel @anna.bredemeyer and giving this georgette Benarasi saree from @rouh_se its first proper evening out. Also the first outing for this sculptural handmade clutch by @isharya that I love very much and these beautiful studs, also by Isharya.

I absolutely love wearing sarees and this one is so striking it had me at hello. Thank you @priyaonaquest for launching your label. It’s made saree shopping easier.

@parthipthyagarajan and @madhulikamathur congratulations on the 9th edition of the @weddingsutra Influencer Awards. It was fun judging them. by @shunalikhullarshroff1

Some books you cannot finish & some won’t let you finish anything else. That’s how much gripping this one is!
For me, it was LOVE at first page!

So it’s a true story, I was reading this book on my way & didn’t want to keep it anywhere else except in front of my eyes, but Life gets in the way & you got to do what you got to do. 😑
.
But yes, I hopped on it the moment I was able to & that’s why sharing with you, cz you don’t know what you are missing.

Just BLINDLY go for it.

Joy, pride, gratitude, grief, confusion. These are the feelings many of us are experiencing right now.

I wrote this for @cntravellerindia in 2021, after dropping Zara to university. A year later, she switched universities, completed her undergrad, and is now all set to head overseas again for her postgrad.

All these years, I took comfort in still having our younger one at home. She leaves for university in three weeks.

So I’m revisiting the emotions from that old article, only this time there is a sense of finality to it. No more school-going children. No more one child still safely at home while the other flies off.

I’m trying to make sense of it all as I brace myself for a new kind of life.
