Rylan had his first “bad” moment on set yesterday, but it ended up becoming one of the most meaningful experiences he’s had so far.He’s worked on this production three different times, and every experience has been amazing. The cast and crew have always been so kind and welcoming to him.Yesterday, during a scene change, he got mixed up about where he was supposed to go. In the confusion, one of the extras spoke to him in a way that left him feeling embarrassed and overwhelmed… Honestly, she was flat out terrible to him. When they called “Action,” Rylan moved his feet in each direction, and then froze. He looked at me with tears rolling down his face and ran off set into my arms.One of the biggest stars we’ve ever had the opportunity to work with, noticed what happened and made sure someone checked on him. Before we knew it, several crew members and the AD came to check on him.They took the time to encourage him, make sure he was okay, and help him get back into the scene. What could have been a moment that destroyed his confidence became a moment that built it back up.Some people don’t understand how hard an 8–10 hour day on set is for a 9-year-old, especially when much of it is spent outside. Kids are still learning, growing, and figuring things out. I was disappointed by one person’s actions, but I’m incredibly grateful for the many others who showed him kindness and reminded him that he belonged there. This has been an incredible set to work on, with so many amazing people. I can’t wait until it is released so I can tag these wonderful actors and actresses. Rylan loves acting, loves being on set, and loves the friends he’s made along the way. Yesterday was a great reminder that one difficult moment can be overcome by the support of good people. It is also a great reminder for my fellow actors to be extra kind to these young kids… Which has always been his experience until this one moment.
