🍳 Simmer: very easy recipes from a beginner cook

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Steps:

1) Soak two cups of lentils for at least 6 hours to make them soft (use enough water because the lentils will swell and drink a lot of water lol)
2) Wash and drain the lentils properly (at this time, preheat your oven)
3) Put the lentils in a blender accompanied with 2 eggs, 1/2 cup of plain Greek yoghurt, 2 tablespoons of avocado or olive oil, 2 tablespoons of honey, 1/2 cup of oat flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1 tsp salt.
4) Blend until smooth
5) Pour mixture in a well greased pan and add toppings of your choice (I used halved almonds, pumpkin seeds and everything bagel seasoning).
6) Bake at 350^F for 45-50 minutes ( I used a timer so I don’t get carried away and forget the loaf in the oven 😂)
7) Remove from oven and let it cool in the pan for a couple of minutes before transferring to a rack to cool completely.
8) Slice gently and enjoy! (Make sure it’s completely cool before slicing to prevent it from falling apart!

Be sure to drink water when you’re eating it! It’s quite filling with a lot of fiber.

Okayyyy…this was SOOOOO DELISH. 😭🔥

I had some leftover turkey broth from boiling turkey with onions, habanero, salt and seasonings, and I refused to let that broth go to waste.

So…ramen happened. And honestly? 10/10!

🛒 INGREDIENTS

For the broth:

* 2 cups turkey broth
* 1 tsp soy sauce
* ½ tsp sesame oil
* 1–2 tsp chili crisp oil, to taste

For the ramen:

* 1 packet ramen noodles
* ½–1 cup cooked shredded turkey
* ¼ cup carrots, thinly sliced
* ¼–½ cup cabbage, thinly sliced
* 2–3 tbsp cucumber, thinly sliced
* 1 egg

👩🏾‍🍳 HOW I MADE IT

1. Make the egg
Boil the egg for about 7 minutes for a soft, jammy yolk. Transfer immediately to cold water, let it cool, then peel.

2. Heat the broth
Add 2 cups of turkey broth to a pot and bring it to a gentle simmer.

Add:

* 1 tsp soy sauce
* ½ tsp sesame oil
* 1 tsp chili crisp

Taste and adjust. My broth was already seasoned and spicy from the habanero, so I didn’t add extra salt.

3. Add the vegetables
Add the carrots and cabbage to the simmering broth. Cook for about 2 minutes.

4. Add the ramen
Add the dry ramen noodles directly into the broth. Don’t cook them separately!

Cook according to the package directions, usually 2–4 minutes, gently separating the noodles as they soften.

5. Add the Turks!
Add the shredded cooked turkey during the last 1–2 minutes, just long enough to heat it through.

6. Assemble
Pour everything into a bowl and top with fresh cucumber.

Cut the boiled egg in half and place it on top.

Finish with another little spoonful of chili crisp oil.

THE RESULT?

A spicy, savory, rich turkey broth + springy noodles + tender turkey + crunchy vegetables + that soft egg + chili crisp…

BABYYYY. 😭🔥

And the best part? I made the broth from the turkey I already had, so this was basically a leftover makeoverrrrrrr.

Would I make it again? DUHHHHHHH!!! ABSOLUTELY! by @shutter.and.simmer

My “First Thing in the Morning” Drink 🤫

For some reason, drinking plain water first thing in the morning makes me nauseous. So instead, I started mixing sparkling water + ACV, and honestly…I’m never going back because it’s sooooo good! 😭

My little morning pick-me-up:

*8 oz sparkling water
*1–2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (ACV)

Mix, sip, and enjoy! ☺️

My favourite way to start the day. 🤍

⛔️ If ACV feels too strong, start with less and dilute it more. It’s acidic, so drinking it through a straw and rinsing your mouth with plain water afterward can help protect your teeth! by @shutter.and.simmer

I had 3 veryyyy ripe bananas sitting on my counter and some dates in the pantry, so I decided to turn them into this chocolatey banana bread.

It came out SO soft, moist and fluffy, with little chewy pieces of dates throughout. And because I’m adding cocoa powder, it tastes almost like a chocolate cake… but we’re calling it banana bread. 😂

Perfect for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or when you want something sweet with your coffee. ☕️

Here’s how I made it:

Ingredients

* 3 very ripe bananas, mashed
* ½ cup melted butter
* ⅓ cup brown sugar
* ¼ cup white sugar
* 2 eggs
* ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
* 1 tsp vanilla
* 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
* ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1 tsp baking powder
* 1 tsp baking soda
* 1 tsp cinnamon
* ¼ tsp salt
* ½ cup chopped dates (or more!)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
2. Mash the 3 bananas in a large bowl.
3. Add the melted butter, brown sugar, white sugar, eggs, Greek yogurt and vanilla. Whisk until well combined.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and gently fold until just combined. Don’t overmix.
6. Fold in the chopped dates.
7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle a few extra dates on top if you want.
8. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out with a few moist crumbs.
9. Let it cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then remove and let it cool for another 30 minutes before slicing.

And that’s it! 🍌

The verdict: 10/10. Would absolutely make again!! by @shutter.and.simmer

Blueberry Cheesecake French Toast with Sourdough Bread!

Full ingredient list ⬇️

• Buttermilk or milk of choice
• Greek yogurt
• Cream cheese
• Vanilla extract
• Honey / maple syrup
• Eggs
• Cinnamon powder
• Salt
• Sliced Sourdough bread
• Mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries)

How to Prepare ⬇️

1. Make the filling by mixing together the cream cheese, Greek yogurt, vanilla, and honey / maple syrup until smooth.

2. Spread a generous layer of filling between two slices of the bread to create sandwiches.

3. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the buttermilk or your choice of milk, egg, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.

4. Dip each stuffed sandwich into the batter, making sure both sides are well coated.

5. Cook on a preheated grill (medium heat) or frying pan with butter for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.

6. Make the compote by adding the mixed blueberries, honey/maple syrup and water to a pan. Simmer for 8-10 minutes until it’s thickened and remove to cool!

7. Once compote cools add a few spoonfuls onto French toast, and voila!
