🌴 Pasikuda Beach 🌊

If you’re traveling Sri Lanka during the shoulder season, May–October, consider heading to the east coast instead of the south. The weather can be beautiful, the water is a dreamy ~84°F (29°C), and the beaches are the perfect place to slow down. ☀️🌊

After days of climbing ancient rocks, exploring temples, chasing waterfalls, spotting elephants, and traveling from one end of Sri Lanka to the other, Pasikuda was exactly what we needed — a few days to relax, recharge, and reset. 🤍

Sometimes the best part of a big adventure is knowing when to stop and just enjoy paradise. 🌴✨

So many people come to Sri Lanka to see Sigiriya and miss one of the most incredible places just down the road. 🏛️✨

Welcome to Polonnaruwa — the ancient city and former royal capital of Sri Lanka, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 🇱🇰

Just about 1½ hours from Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa was Sri Lanka’s second capital and flourished between the 11th and 13th centuries. The ruins today include ancient temples, stupas, royal palaces and incredible stone carvings that give you a glimpse into the power and sophistication of this ancient kingdom.

Walking through these ruins, surrounded by jungle and centuries-old stone, felt like stepping back in time.

And honestly, the peacefulness of this place made it feel even more special.

If you’re visiting Sigiriya, don’t skip Polonnaruwa. ❤️🇱🇰

🐘✨ One of the most incredible experiences of our Sri Lanka trip!
This afternoon around 4 PM, we headed out on a Jeep safari through Hurulu Eco Park near Sigiriya, and we ended up seeing 30+ elephants! 🐘🤍 Watching these incredible animals in their natural habitat, with babies staying close to their mothers and herds moving through the park, was truly unforgettable. One of the most exciting experiences I’ve ever had!
We were also very intentional about choosing an ethical safari and did our research before booking. Our driver parked far away from the herd, turned off the engine, and let the elephants naturally walk past us while they ate. No chasing, no disturbing — just observing these beautiful animals in their natural environment. 🌿
An afternoon I’ll never forget. ❤️🇱🇰

🦁 Sigiriya Lion Rock, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

Today we climbed one of Sri Lanka’s most incredible historic sites — Sigiriya, the ancient rock fortress built by King Kashyapa I in the 5th century. Rising nearly 660 feet above the surrounding jungle, this massive rock was once home to a royal palace and fortress.

And yes… we climbed all 1,200+ steps to the top! 😅🥾

We started our climb at 9:00 AM, and we couldn’t have asked for better conditions. Partly cloudy skies, a beautiful breeze, and just enough wind to make the climb feel a little easier. The views kept getting better with every step, and standing at the top looking out over the Sri Lankan landscape made every single one of those steps worth it. ❤️

1,200+ steps. 660 feet up. Thousands of years of history. And absolutely worth the climb. 🇱🇰✨

One of the most beautiful hotels I’ve stayed at is in Sri Lanka. Aarunya Nature Resort is an amazing hillside resort just outside of Kandy. Each room comes with its own plunge pool and playful monkeys in the trees! I highly recommend a visit. 🌴 🐒 taken in Aarunya Nature Resort by @shutter_bell

The perfect day trip from Naxos? Koufonisi ⛴️💙 Just a 40-minute fast ferry ride away, this tiny island is the cutest little escape. The main strip takes about 30 minutes to walk, with charming little shops, whitewashed streets and that laid-back Greek island feel.

3 places I’d 100% eat at again in Naxos 🇬🇷👇

🐟 Sarris Fish — Come hungry! The fish soup was honestly the best I’ve ever had, and the fresh marinated octopus was SO good. It gets busy, but they make waiting a little easier with a complimentary glass of wine and dessert. 🍷🍰

🍆 Meltemi — The smell pulled me in before I even got there 😂 I had their moussaka baked in eggplant and it was incredible. Comfort food at its best.

🍫 Melimilon — The cutest spot for breakfast! Fried bread with chocolate praline sauce and fresh fruit… need I say more? 🤤

Save this for your Naxos trip 🇬🇷 and send it to someone you’d eat your way through Greece with!
