An oasis amongst the concrete.

I was looking for some life in the dreary, rainy cityscape. Naturally, I gravitated towards Golden Gate Park and realized I had never been to the Botanical Gardens before. It was lightly raining, the skies cascaded with fog, yet some of us still decided to take a walk. Here’s some of what I saw.

A friend of mine showed me this band a couple years ago and we made a habit of listening to them while we closed down the bar. They only had five songs out at the time and I played them to death. And still do. Super stoked they made it out to California for a beat. Thank you @flowersforemilyband #35mm taken in Oakland, California by @shuttergutt3r

The final two stanzas from The Second Coming by W. B. Yeats; an omnirelevant and classic poem— more famously know for its first half:

“Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world…”

A powerful illumination on the effects of corruption and inaction, this poem is loved by many great writers focused on political action and human rights.
.
Namely being the direct source of titles like Slouching Towards Bethlehem (1968) by revolutionary journalist Joan Didion, a compilation of stories garnered from the opioid epidemic and subsequent social disintegration across California and the dark side of the Hippie movement during the 60s in the Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco and Things Fall Apart (1958) by the monumental Chinua Achebe, a response to Joseph Conrad’s novella, Heart of Darkness (1899) a story about a British sailor in Africa’s Democratic Republic of the Congo during the height of colonialism, specifically the ivory trade. Achebe’s version from the opposite perspective reveals how historically the real darkness and barbarianism has come from colonialism and extreme racism; he proves how harmful history is when told only from the side of the victors, exploitation thrives on ignorance, and an incomplete story is dangerous. <3 Thnx for reading if you did.
