A huge thank you to the Shuttleworth Trust for bringing the Blackburn B.2 to Breighton to help celebrate 110 years of Brough. It was fantastic to welcome more than 300 current and former BAE Systems employees to the airfield for Best of British Day last Sunday.The Blackburn B.2—the world’s only flying example of this remarkable aircraft—was one of the highlights of the event.Designed and built by Blackburn Aircraft at Brough, East Yorkshire, the Blackburn B.2 was a British biplane trainer introduced in the 1930s. Featuring side-by-side seating and an all-metal fuselage, it was developed as the successor to the Blackburn Bluebird IV. Just 42 aircraft were produced between 1932 and 1937, serving primarily with civilian flying schools that trained RAF Reserve pilots.The aircraft that visited Breighton, G-AEBJ, was built in 1936 and is the only complete, airworthy Blackburn B.2 in the world.Formerly owned by BAE Systems, G-AEBJ was transferred to the Shuttleworth Collection in 2022 and is now based at Old Warden. For many current and former employees at Brough, as well as their families, the aircraft holds special memories. They remember watching Derek Whitehead and other Brough test pilots flying this much-loved vintage biplane over the airfield in their spare time, alongside their work testing iconic fast jets such as the Buccaneer, Phantom and Hawk.It was a fitting homecoming for a unique piece of Yorkshire’s aviation heritage and a wonderful way to mark 110 years of aircraft production at Brough. 🇬🇧 #realaeroplanes #yorkshire #airfield #breighton #bae by @shuttleworthtrust
