Crazy night last night, woke up hearing a big crash and then saw half a tree in the road.

Apparently when there is a drought trees will shed branches to conserve energy.

Venue: Brixton Academy
Year: 2004

The Valve Sound System has gone down in drum & bass history as one of the most powerful and distinctive sound systems ever built. Created by Dillinja and Lemon D, it was designed around one simple idea: to experience bass music exactly as it was intended — loud, physical and unapologetically heavy.

Hearing the Valve in full effect was something else.
Those low-end frequencies weren’t simply something you listened to; they moved through the entire room. You could physically feel the bass, and it gave the music a completely different sense of weight and impact. 💥

It was also a period when Dillinja and Lemon D were perhaps better known for their production than for constantly being behind the decks. I remember the first time I saw Dillinja DJ was at Homelands. He dropped “Crunch” for the first time and absolutely destroyed the tent. Three or four rewinds, sweat dripping from the ceiling and the whole place going completely mental.

Moments like that are what made this era so memorable.

One Nation were still putting on some seriously big events around this time, and their tapes from the late ’90s and early 2000s remain some of the most important snapshots of that period for me. They captured a time when the music, the sound systems and the raves all seemed to be pushing each other to new levels.

The Valve was a huge part of that story.

Going live this Friday via Bandcamp.

Over the past year I've built up a collection of around 500 original bass samples, mainly used in my own productions and now ready to pass on to the next producer to mangle and use to their heart's content

Every sample was created using hardware and resampled multiple times through my Mackie desk to add character and capture that authentic, gritty sound.

They're noisy, they're raw, and they're ready to be put to work. 😁
