This mother bear, called Sheli by the locals, gave us a full tutorial of how to dig and eat clams along the coast when the tide recedes. She would dig up a few for the cubs and then have a few herself. It was fun seeing the cubs figure out how to open them, sometimes their claws getting stuck in closed clams!
Seen here in the images, Sheli walking the coast to find the next dig site, 2 cubs trying to figure us out and then chatting details amongst themselves and then a friendly spar, while the third continued to feed on the clams and then eventually trotting along to get close to Mom while still making sure to pose well for photos along the way...

One pass, one drop, one strike, and it was over for the fish before the splash settled! Notice how the eagle tucks the fish under its tail feathers to hide it from the others!

Sunset lighting up the forest haze showcasing the layers of ridges that the Great Smoky Mountains have to offer!
That haze isn't pollution, it's the forest breathing. The blue smoke this place was named for comes straight off the trees, and it only pools between the ridges like this because the woods below are still whole enough to make it.

The rock keeps pretending to be other things. A wing here, a wave there, a face if you stare at it too long. Everyone on tour was pointing at shapes and discussing what we saw. But everyone agreed, this one was a proud Lion 🦁

First came the thunder — no storm, just a crack rolling off the canyon walls from somewhere we couldn't see. We followed the echo until the rock finally gave them up: a ring of rams around a single female, and these two settling who got to stay.

Valley of fire does justice to its name with the Red rocks spilling out in every direction and the cloudy sunrise painting the rocks and lighting up the sky in flames🔥🔥
I came out for a sunrise timelapse and for a few minutes before the sun climbed the horizon, the reflected sunrise light off the clouds made the entire region feel other worldly. Some mornings, the desert just decides to be another planet and dares you to keep up!

Funny how a span that took millions of years to carve only glows like this for a few minutes each day. The plan was to shoot the sunrise over Bryce canyon and then hurry here to get the underglow of the arch from the reflected sunlight. Lucky to have been able to do both the same day and get spectacular views...
