Chimes 4/4

Great success!

In all seriousness,
This was an insane project to work on, countless long nights and a crazy final stretch but can safely say this was one of the most fruitful experiences we’ve had to date. There were 100s of hours spent prototyping, soldering, sanding, cutting, programming and learning countless lessons to build from for next time.

Seeing the chimes actually work and everyone enjoying them as much as we did made it all worth it.

Special mention to our mentor @sirc_uit . The chimes would not have performed so well on the night without his pure generosity in knowledge and wisdom.

@djswisha @pjenneee thanks for making our lights wiggle real good

Guided movement by @akshaya__bliss at subha, captured by @devikaa_

This was the perfect way to kick off a session of deep listening for two reasons. First, it helped people feel very relaxed, comfortable and calm in their bodies. Second, it served as a collective ritual at the start, which helped foster a tangible sense of community throughout the attendees for the remainder of the night.

I was so amazed by Akshaya's composure throughout the guided movement. She presented a form of yoga which felt poetic, and her ability to guide and soothe and sway the audience with her voice was incredible to witness.

Thank you to the intense downpour of rain just before the guided movement which cleared up the skies for this beautiful moment. by @siddhthesloth

And our final artist for tonight!!! Mum ❤️

Amrita Rawal, who is Mum, also known as my mother, is known in our communities as being an insane cook. Mum was taught to cook by her mother, also known as my nani. Everything she touches turns to gold. I remember when she would feed me with her hands, which would somehow make the food taste one hundred times better??! I love my mum, she taught me to have deep kindness, a fighting spirit and open honesty. You all will be fighting for her khana today. Bring gloves.

You can find mum on @amrita_rawal

The man, the myth, the legend. Introducing, my dear friend... sivaaji 🐯

sivaaji is a Tamil producer and selector crafting deep, heady, and emotive diasporic sounds. His journey with music began early — as a toddler sitting cross-legged in front of the TV, cotton nappies on, watching Tollywood music videos while his Amma lovingly fed him veg rice thali. His debut EP, tenderly recorded in the jungles of Dandeli, Karnataka with flute maestro Jaith Chandreshakur, blends airy flute solos, lush synths, and dynamic grooves into a captivating sonic journey.

For sivaaji storytelling is at the heart of his sets, weaving a rich tapestry of nostalgic bubbly grooves that invite listeners to take a moment to breathe, reflect and move.

For me, he is the perfect example of how I feel south-asian artists should be utilising the rich, emotional and hypnotic sound palette available to us through our extensive musical history. Come on Saturday to hear what I am talking about 😏

Introducing our sitarist for subha... Kalpana Paranjothy 🪔

Kalpana Paranjothy is a sitarist, composer, and visual artist known for blending Indian classical music with contemporary art forms. A disciple of Ustad Usman Khan, she has performed and taught internationally for over two decades. Kalpanaji runs her own sitar classes which you can find on @kalpana_artsreimagined

I saw Kalpanaji perform 2 months ago and was so entranced by her stage presence. I would love for you all to experience this aswell!

Also did you know that the base of the sitar is made from a type of pumpkin?! This really shocked me.
