WHAT DOES KERALA TASTE LIKE?

Maybe the answer isn’t a single dish.

It’s Malabar and Travancore. Coconut and curry leaves. Fish and fire. Biryani and Sadya. Recipes passed down rather than reinvented.

Chef Arun Vijayan is currently bringing that idea to Kolkata with a Kerala food celebration at Kava, Fairfield by Marriott — and he’s doing it with a simple philosophy: no fusion, no foreign ingredients, just the food of Kerala.

From Malabari biryani and Meen Manga Curry to Pineapple Fish Moilee and Kerala Chicken Roast, the menu travels across the state rather than reducing Kerala cuisine to one familiar idea of “South Indian food.”

And on 26 August, there’s an Onam Sadhya to complete the experience.

Perhaps authenticity is the most interesting ingredient right now.

Mubarak Baug, their new Mumbai flagship, is where couture meets art, craft and maximalist design.

After four decades of making Indian couture synonymous with maximalism, @abujani1 and @sandeepkhosla are turning their design language into an entire world of its own. Their new Mumbai flagship, Mubarak Baug, goes beyond the traditional idea of a fashion store: think richly layered Art Deco references, hand-finished surfaces, murals and sculptural details that make the space feel closer to an immersive art salon than a boutique. The project also sits within the expanding universe of A Wonder Room, the duo’s design arm, which translates their longstanding fascination with Indian craft, ornament and storytelling into spaces beyond fashion.

What makes the moment particularly interesting is the timing: 2026 marks 40 years of Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla’s creative partnership, a journey that has seen them revive Indian craft traditions while continually pushing them into more theatrical territory. Their recent work across interiors, art and experiential spaces suggests that the AJSK universe is no longer confined to the wardrobe it is becoming a full-scale design language.

OLD-WORLD OPULENCE, REIMAGINED.

Rocky Star (@rockystarofficial ) brings a darker vision of glamour to London with his Autumn/Winter 2026/27 couture collection, where the grandeur of Baroque architecture meets the intricacy of Indian craftsmanship.

Presented at St John’s Church, London, on 17 September, the collection draws on the atmosphere of antique interiors, ornate architecture and faded grandeur, reinterpreting historical references through a contemporary couture lens.

Hand-embroidered corsets, sculpted silhouettes and elongated gowns form the foundation of the collection. Crystals, sequins, pearls, metallic beadwork and feathers bring depth and drama to each look, while sheer fabrics and fluid draping soften the embellishment with movement. The palette moves through gunmetal, antique silver, champagne, muted gold and deep charcoal, allowing texture, light and intricate surface work to take centre stage.

Six months in the making, with every piece handcrafted, the collection reflects a dialogue between European architectural grandeur and the Indian embroidery traditions central to Rocky Star’s (@rockystar100 ) design language.

Bringing the presentation together, show director and choreographer Lokesh Sharma (@lokeshsharmaofficial ) shaped the runway’s movement and pacing, translating the collection’s dramatic vision into a cohesive show.

Marking Rocky Star’s fifteenth London outing, the presentation continues his exploration of theatrical glamour, meticulous craftsmanship and contemporary couture.

AK|OK IN PARIS: INDIAN CRAFT, A NEW WARDROBE LANGUAGE.

For Spring/Summer 2027, Anamika Khanna(@anamikakhanna.in ) brings AK|OK (@akok.in )to Paris with C’est OK! , a collection that reimagines familiar dressing through individuality, craftsmanship and unexpected contrasts.

Relaxed tailoring, fluid trousers, sheer layers and denim meet hand-painted details, chikankari, layered embroidery and metallic accents. The result is a wardrobe that moves between understated everyday dressing and evening expression, with Indian craftsmanship woven into contemporary silhouettes.

Presented within the setting of a modern Indian home, the collection draws from familiar surroundings, nature and everyday objects, translating them into prints, textures and details that feel both personal and unexpected.

The story behind AK|OK is personal, too. Founded by Anamika Khanna (@anamikakhannaindia )with her twin sons, Viraj (@viraj_khanna )and Vishesh (@thevisheshkhanna ), the label reflects a shared creative vision. Viraj brings his perspective as a visual artist, while Vishesh contributes his design experience. Together, their generational exchange has helped shape AK|OK’s contemporary identity.

At the heart of C’est OK! is a simple idea: giving yourself permission to be yourself. And with its Paris presentation, AK|OK takes that philosophy to a new audience, bringing Indian craft and a distinctly individual approach to modern dressing into focus.

INSIDE @amitaggarwalofficial ’S UNIVERSE

What happens when a designer’s visual language becomes a physical space?

In Kala Ghoda, @i.am.it ’s newest flagship brings together couture, occasionwear, menswear, accessories and AM.IT across 6,000 sq ft, but the story goes beyond what’s on the racks.

The space is an extension of the house itself: concrete, shadows, sculptural forms and a restrained grey palette create a setting where the clothes take centre stage. At its heart, a 13-foot suspended pod evokes the idea of a seed, carrying the possibility of everything it could become.

Even the building’s unconventional character, from its exposed girders and irregular geometry to its windowless structure, becomes part of the experience rather than something to disguise.

And then there’s Amit himself: strong black coffee, black clothes, Aram vada pav when he lands in Mumbai, and a soft spot for silly television. Small details that make the world behind the label feel a little more human.

Five years after his first Mumbai homecoming, this feels less like another flagship and more like a new physical chapter for the house.

And with AM.IT set to close Lakmé Fashion Week (@lakmefashionwk ) x FDCI (@fdciofficial ) on October 18, the Amit Aggarwal universe is having a very big month.

WHEN THE RUNWAY BECAME A STORY

For its first fashion presentation, @cord.in chose not to simply present clothes. It built a world around them.

On October 6, at Delhi’s Kamani Auditorium, The Clouds Beneath Us unfolded as a fashion-theatre production, following a young girl through a world of characters, forests, marketplaces and impossible places. Models became part of the performance, moving through the story rather than simply walking a runway.

The clothes carried the same sense of imagination. Relaxed, largely unisex silhouettes met painterly prints, checks, florals, hand-smocking, appliqué, embroidery and layered styling. There was ease in the clothes, but enough unexpected detail to keep the eye moving.

At the heart of it was Elsewhere, CORD’s Festive FW ’26 collection, drawing from folklore, mythical beings and childhood imagination. The collection also brought artist Sai Pradhan’s ( @sai_pradhan_art ) work into the picture, with two pieces from her With Regard to Myths series translated into the “Sai” print.

What made the evening feel particularly CORD was that the theatricality didn’t seem added on for effect. It felt like an extension of a visual world the label has been building for years.

This time, that world stepped off the page and onto the stage.

Trying to get a Lakmé Fashion Week internship or backstage opportunity?

It isn’t always as simple as searching for an “LFW internship.”

Opportunities can come through designers, participating brands, stylists, production teams, PR agencies, content teams, event teams and institutions.

So before you start sending random DMs, know:

→ Which route fits your skills
→ Who you should actually contact
→ What to keep ready before applying
→ How to approach a designer or brand professionally
→ What to do when you don’t get a response
→ What actually matters once you’re backstage
→ And what other legitimate routes exist if you’re looking for access rather than an internship

We put together Behind the Runway as a practical guide for anyone trying to get their first fashion-week experience, whether that’s through an internship, assistant role, backstage support, production, styling, content, PR or event operations.

Save this before you start reaching out.

Note: An opportunity connected to Lakmé Fashion Week may be arranged by an individual designer, brand, agency, production team or institution and should not automatically be considered an official Lakmé Fashion Week position.

GAURAV GUPTA MAKES PARIS PERMANENT.

From runway to residence - @ggpanther just made history.

The couturier has opened his first international showroom in Paris. A 300 sq m appointment-only couture space on Rue Jean Goujon in the 8th arrondissement, just steps from the Grand Palais.

This is more than a showroom. It’s private consultations, intimate fittings, and a full immersion into Gupta’s sculptural world.

After showing his couture in Paris since 2023, this is the shift: from showing IN Paris to BEING in Paris.

And the heart remains Indian. All collections will still be designed and produced in India with his network of artisans - bringing Indian craftsmanship to the global couture capital in a sculptural, contemporary language.

An Indian couture house, now permanently Parisian.

Swipe through for a closer look at what this new chapter means for @gauravguptaofficial .

What do you think of this move?
