there’s no place like home.

for the past three summers, i’ve cleared a week of my life to disappear on a mountain with no ac, unseasoned food, and not an ounce of privacy. it is within this mountain i have been placed in countless rooms with some of our nations brightest young minds all in pursuit of one thing: a better world for us all. to some, this experience is merely that; an experience. the conference on national affairs, for me though, has managed to change me with each passing year. i have matured through this conference, transforming from delegate to leader to the outgoing gov. everytime i leave i emerge with this sense of hope. a sense of hope founded in the conviction that everything our nation is starving for begins right in these rooms. it is through countless debates that i have made some of the greatest friendships and epiphanies of my life, i can’t even begin to express my gratitude.

of all my thanks, my highest has to be the honor it has been to be a member of the flofam for the past three years. i’ve watched us grow from 13 people fitting at one table, less than a row in thrailkill, and a small enough amount of warm and fuzzies they could be written in a day to 25 delegates being the loudest cheer in the room, needing to save multiple seats everywhere, and being crammed into a roundtable room. i watched our delegation transform from people whose leadership i admired to people i served, led, and loved. when i look out onto your faces, i see our program’s future where i once saw my own. that indescribable feeling is why i leave with no sadness, i know im leaving this program in good hands.

it’s been the honor of my lifetime to serve this program. i wouldn’t trade a moment of it for the worlds greatest riches because the greatest prize is the memories i’ve made and the people i leave behind to make their own path. i love you all from the bottom of my heart, thank you for being my home. there really is no place like you guys. taken in YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly by @sidwellingov

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF STATE ASSEMBLY!!!!!!!

it was electric to finally to see your beautiful, smiling faces once again in tallahassee. from last minute practice, to meeting mayor john dailey and florida attorney general in opening ceremony, today was FULL of wonderful memories and surprises. walking around getting to provide testimonials i heard your incredible debate. each and every one of you inspire me with your passion for our great state. it was also my great pleasure to get to, along with the rest of cabinet, participate in judicial’s cookie case. i love to hear the power of judicial arguments and continue integrating all program areas into one another.

PRE-WEEK DAY 2

can you all believe we see you tomorrow because i can’t!!!! today was a very busy day of practice, practice, and more practice. the pos did a LOT of prep for joint resolutions, we cannot wait to see how they will add to the program to this year. we also did a lot of program area specific practice to make sure everything is perfect for tomorrow. not to mention all the GAs arrived today, they are all so excited to help us out so PLEASE thank them when you see them :) finally, pos did a lot of singing along and target trips.

PRE WEEK DAY 1

pre-week has officially kicked off!! your presiding officers have spent a full day practicing, completing service projects, and building YOUR bill books. we have gotten married, been DANG liars, and have been in absolute yigema.

the service project we completed helped build boxes for seniors in the big bend region. it was so heartwarming to see so many passionate people and get to support a community that isn’t even our own. service is at the heart of our program, we hope this project inspires other corps and chapters for years to come. we had a wonderful time @secondharvestbb, thank you for having us.

‼️ CONA APPLICATIONS CLOSE 3/25 ‼️

as someone who has been to a number of y-events, people often ask me which one is my favorite. without any question, every time, it will always be cona. i’ve spent two summers on the mountain with the flofam. i have made some of the best friends of my life and the best memories with people from around the country in that short week. i have found camaraderie in the 600 people all dedicated to making our country a better place. blue ridge spirit is real and there is nothing like meeting everyone with a smiling face or chanting in the dining hall. if you’ve got nothing to do late june, do yourself the favor and apply to join the flofam. you won’t regret it. link in @floridayig bio, complete it by wednesday. taken in YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly by @sidwellingov

‼️ FINAL CIVIC FELLOWS COHORT APPLICATION CLOSES 3/25 ‼️

the summer between my sophomore and junior year i wanted some college credits from a real university. so i applied for civic fellows. little did i know that i would fall in love with youth in government through the one week i spent in freezing lectures, arms deep in cookie dough at the ronald mcdonald house, hours in st. petersburg city hall, and eating ice cream with every meal. civic fellows is a week long civic engagement experience hosted at USF st. petersburg focused on teaching about the government and providing service learning opportunities. i learned how to make real, impactful change through this program at absolutely no cost. cfp made me fall in love with yig, i highly recommend all sophomores and juniors apply for FREE college credits. i made some of my best yig friends and connections that have lasted over two years. cfp ends this year, apply by march 25th at the link in @floridayig bio. taken in USF St. Petersburg by @sidwellingov

what a crazy busy, crazy rewarding weekend! two weeks ago all of your executive, legislative, and judicial presiding and supporting officers came together at camp wewa for state assembly training. after months of zoom meetings, finally seeing everyone in person was incredible. chairs practiced committees, associate justices practiced presiding, and executive practiced testimonies. i can say without an ounce of doubt that we are more than prepared to serve you in april, can’t wait to see you then :) taken in Apopka Camp Wewa by @sidwellingov

as time to register dwindles down for the unconvinced, my favorite part of state assembly isn’t the assembly at all. it is the friendships, memories, and connections that come long after it. if i didn’t go to state assembly i wouldn’t have been able to attend civic fellows, changemakers, y-ad, cona, become an so, or become a po. state assembly brings the entire state together on one cause; a better future. there is no better place to make meaningful change to the world and your own life than that. very rarely does life provide you a key to one door that opens up all the ones after it. i urge you to take it, promise you won’t regret it.
